Manchester United captain, Bruno Fernandes, has strongly stated that the challenge made by Bournemouth on his teammate Amad Diallo inside the penalty box should have resulted in a penalty during the Premier League encounter between both clubs. It would be recalled that Manchester United were not given a penalty in their 2-2 draw against Bournemouth on Friday night, despite appeals from the players. During the match, referee Stuart Attwell awarded a penalty to Manchester United earlier after Matheus Cunha was brought down inside the box, and the official pointed to the penalty spot. Bruno Fernandes converted the penalty successfully to put the Red Devils ahead with a 1-0 lead. However, Bournemouth later equalized through Ryan Christie after an incident involving Amad Diallo inside the penalty area, where the winger went down following contact, but the referee allowed play to continue without awarding a penalty. Manchester United managed to take the lead again after James Hill scored an own goal, giving the visitors another advantage. The situation later changed when Bournemouth were awarded a penalty after Harry Maguire received a straight red card for a foul considered similar to the earlier incident involving Diallo. After the game, the Premier League Match Centre explained that the reason Amad Diallo was not given a penalty was because the level of contact was judged not strong enough to be considered a foul. Speaking during his post-match interview, Bruno Fernandes expressed frustration over the decision made by the referee and the VAR officials. According to Fernandes, it is understandable that referees may find it difficult to award multiple penalties to the same team in one match, but he questioned why the Video Assistant Referee did not review the situation properly. He stated that he could not understand why one incident was judged as a penalty while another similar challenge was ignored, insisting that the foul on Amad Diallo should have been given as a penalty.
