The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised serious concerns over what it describes as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s early political mobilisation ahead of the 2027 presidential election, despite Nigeria remaining under a declared state of emergency. According to the opposition party, the President’s actions reflect a “deeply troubling lack of sensitivity” toward the severe challenges Nigerians are currently facing. The ADC argues that launching re-election activities at a period when citizens are battling rising insecurity contradicts the central purpose of the emergency declaration. Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the National Publicity Secretary of the ADC, released a statement expressing the party’s disapproval. He stressed that the President’s decision to distribute branded vehicles to political operatives across various regions of the country appears disconnected from the realities confronting millions of citizens who continue to endure kidnappings, widespread attacks, and an alarming rise in violent incidents. The ADC further emphasised that this trend reflects misplaced priorities, particularly at a time when communities are demanding stronger security measures and proactive government intervention. Instead of focusing on stabilising the nation, the party noted, resources seem to be directed toward future political ambitions. They warned that the ongoing insecurity crisis requires total governmental focus, urgent responses, and coordinated leadership, rather than activities that hint at premature electioneering strategies. The party therefore urged the government to redirect its attention to Nigerians’ safety and welfare, insisting that leadership must remain fully committed to resolving national threats before considering political campaigns.
