President Bola Tinubu has issued a forceful warning to bandits, kidnappers, and sponsors of terrorism across Nigeria, urging them to surrender immediately or confront the full might of the Nigerian government. Delivering his message in a nationwide address commemorating 27 years of uninterrupted democracy, the president emphasized that the window for surrender will not remain open indefinitely. He highlighted that terror-related fatalities have declined by 81% since 2015, and more than 13,000 terrorists were neutralized in the past year alone. Honouring Democracy and National Spirit President Tinubu stated: “Today, we celebrate not just democracy but the resilient Nigerian spirit. For 27 consecutive years, Nigerians have chosen leaders through elections, witnessed peaceful transitions, and settled disputes in courts and legislative bodies—not through violence. Our democracy is not perfect, but it is ours, and it must be defended and strengthened.” With upcoming elections in Ekiti and Osun States, he called on INEC, security agencies, and political parties to ensure credible and peaceful polls, reminding citizens that democracy falters when trust in the process diminishes. Call to Young Nigerians: Build the Future at Home Addressing Nigeria’s youth, the president urged: “Nigeria is your home and future. Stay, innovate, work, and vote here. Every great nation thrives because its citizens chose to solve problems locally rather than abandon them.” He acknowledged the contributions of the armed forces, police, intelligence agencies, traditional rulers, faith leaders, and community heads in supporting peace and reconciliation. Security and Terrorism Efforts Tinubu reflected on ongoing security measures, noting: “Bandits, kidnappers, and sponsors of terror: surrender or face the full force of the Nigerian State. No mercy will be shown to those trading in the blood of Nigerians,” he warned. Reflecting on June 12 and Democratic Sacrifices June 12 holds a special place in Nigeria’s history, representing the resilience of democratic ideals. The president paid homage to heroes such as Chief M.K.O Abiola, Alhaja Kudirat Abiola, Chief Gani Fawehinmi, Chief Bola Ige, and countless others who endured persecution to secure political freedom. “The greatest tribute we can pay is to build a Nigeria where freedom is protected, justice is upheld, and opportunities are abundant,” Tinubu stated. Economic Reforms and National Progress Highlighting economic advancements, Tinubu detailed: Despite progress, he acknowledged ongoing economic hardships, promising continued focus on inflation reduction, job creation, and living standard improvements. Unity and National Cohesion Tinubu emphasized that Nigeria’s diversity is a source of strength and called for unity, hope, and confidence in governance. He underscored the need to accelerate growth so that democracy delivers tangible benefits to every household. “Every generation has a defining responsibility. The founders secured independence, June 12 secured democracy, and our generation must secure prosperity,” the president remarked.
