The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), headed by US billionaire Elon Musk, has revealed the cancellation of an additional 401 wasteful contracts valued at $2.1 billion. DOGE made this announcement in a statement shared through its X account late Thursday evening. According to the department, among the terminated contracts is a $228,000 Treasury contract related to “Kenya, Uganda, Namibia, and Tanzania cruiser vehicles.” Additionally, a $5.9 million Department of Commerce (DoC) contract for “environmental consulting support services” was also terminated. DOGE highlighted that these terminations have resulted in significant savings of $613 million for the nation. “Over the past two days, agencies have canceled 401 wasteful contracts with a combined value of $2.1 billion, resulting in savings of $613 million. These include a $276,000 Treasury contract for a ‘Kenya program coordinator,’ a $228,000 Treasury contract for ‘Kenya, Uganda, Namibia, and Tanzania cruiser vehicles,’ a $24,000 Department of Homeland Security (DHS) contract for ‘two-day training on equal opportunity in employment,’ a $15,000 DHS contract for ‘Out and Equal workplace advocates,’ and a $5.9 million DoC contract for ‘environmental consulting support services,’” DOGE stated on X. Earlier this week, DOGE also announced the termination of another 179 wasteful contracts valued at $1.87 billion. The DOGE department was established under the administration of President Trump with a mandate to reduce waste across federal agencies. President Trump recently expressed approval of DOGE’s initiatives, hinting that the department could become a permanent fixture in the US government.
