In a tragic turn of events, the Delta State Police have arrested a father and his second wife following the mysterious deaths of three sisters in the state. The young sisters, who lived separately from their father after their mother’s passing, were visiting their father’s residence in the Delta Steel Company (DSC) Township, Oruhworun, Udu Local Government Area. According to reports, the sisters had returned from a birthday celebration the night before and were found foaming at the mouth the following day. The incident has shaken the community, especially as it comes less than a year after the girls’ biological mother died. Their father remarried shortly after their mother’s death, with the stepmother being a close friend of the late woman. “The family dynamics have left many in shock,” a source shared. “The sisters occasionally visited their father after he remarried, but this sudden death has raised numerous questions.” Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Edafe Bright, confirmed the case, describing the deaths as suspicious. “We are thoroughly investigating and exploring all possible angles. Updates will follow as the case progresses,” Bright said. In an unrelated but equally unsettling development, two Tiv youths from Benue State have been arrested for allegedly murdering an engineer in Delta State. The engineer was contracted to construct offices in Akwukwu-Igbo, the headquarters of Oshimili North Local Government Area. The incident, which took place in December 2024, came to light only recently after the arrest of the suspects. Sources revealed that the Tiv boys concealed the engineer’s body in a shallow grave on a farm. The Delta State Police Command has made significant strides in combating crime, parading over 30 criminal suspects involved in offenses such as armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism, and murder. The police also successfully recovered 150 arms, including 32 AK-47 rifles. The State Commissioner of Police, Abaniwonda Olufemi, shared this during a media briefing at the police headquarters in Asaba. He emphasized that these achievements result from concerted efforts since he assumed office in February 2024 as the 22nd Commissioner of Police. “Despite challenges, we have restored relative peace, thanks to the support of other security agencies, stakeholders, and residents of Delta State,” Olufemi stated. Tragic Baby Killing Case Among the notable incidents was the harrowing case of a 10-month-old baby, Prevail Jonathan, who was reported missing on December 4, 2024. The child’s lifeless body was discovered in the Aviara community river during police investigations. Shocking confessions from the baby’s mother, Blessing Ibuku, revealed that she threw her child into the river on November 31, 2024, due to humiliation from friends mocking her about the child being fatherless. Blessing is currently in custody while investigations continue. Kidnapping Foiled in Asaba On November 27, 2024, the command responded to a distress call about a kidnapping on DLA Road, Asaba. Four armed criminals in a Toyota Camry (BLF 490 AA) abducted a man and woman, stealing a vehicle belonging to one victim. The police’s Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Squad (SAKCCS) tracked the suspects to the Asaba-Benin Expressway. Although the victims were released, the kidnappers abandoned their car and fled into the bush. Recovered Items: Major Robbery Arrest in Asaba In another operation on December 2, 2024, the police, alongside the Rapid Response Squad and Buffalo Squad, raided a criminal hideout behind Anioma Market, Asaba. This resulted in the arrest of 10 suspects linked to robberies in Asaba, Okpanam, and Issele-Uku, with multiple arms recovered. Murder-for-Hire Confession The police also arrested Destiny Lawrence, who confessed to kidnapping a boy for ₦30,000 under orders from a native doctor named Jonah from Otolokpo community. Jonah allegedly slit the boy’s throat in an uncompleted building.
