The Commissioner of Police, CP Yusufu Mohammed Lawal, visited the Nganzai Police Division the same day, commending the officers for their bravery while extending heartfelt condolences to the families of the fallen officers. Earlier reports had surfaced regarding the tragic killing of several firewood scavengers and multiple injuries due to an explosion in the Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State. The attack on the police station occurred around 12:10 a.m. when gunmen, suspected to be Boko Haram insurgents, attempted to storm the division. Officers on duty bravely fought back, engaging in a prolonged gun battle. Tragically, the attackers resorted to using hand grenades, which exploded near a shelter behind the station, fatally wounding two officers. Following the incident, the police conducted a scene assessment where two unexploded grenades were recovered by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) – CBRN Base 13 Maiduguri. The bodies of the deceased officers were transported to the State General Hospital in Maiduguri. The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has reported the loss of four officers following an ambush by suspected Boko Haram terrorists in the Farin-Kasa area of Chukun Local Government Area, Kaduna State. Incident Details The tragic incident occurred on November 18 when the NSCDC’s monitoring team was inspecting the national grid installation in Shiroro, Niger State. According to Afolabi Babawale, the NSCDC spokesperson, seven officers were initially declared missing after the attack. In an update provided on Friday, Babawale confirmed that four of the missing officers have been found dead. Two others sustained injuries but managed to return to base, while one officer remains unaccounted for. Commandant-General’s Response Ahmed Audi, the NSCDC Commandant-General, expressed deep sorrow over the loss and extended condolences to the corps’ personnel and families affected.
