Tragic Boat Accident in Kwara Claims 37 Lives

A devastating boat accident on Thursday evening has left 37 people dead in the Gbajibo-Mudi area of Kaiama Local Government, Kwara State, according to LMSINT MEDIA. Credible local sources disclosed that the ill-fated boat was carrying more than 100 individuals—exceeding its capacity—though some passengers managed to survive the accident. Local authorities, including Kaiama LGA Chairman, Abubakar Abdullahi, and the traditional leader of the community, Emir Alhaji Muazu Shehu Omar, are currently at the scene coordinating rescue and recovery efforts. The boat, which was reportedly en route to a neighboring area in Niger State, encountered trouble around 6:00 p.m., leading to the tragic event. Most of the occupants were said to be traders traveling for business-related activities in the Niger region. This unfortunate incident mirrors a previous disaster that occurred on October 5, 2024, in the same Gbajibo-Mudi community. That mishap, which also involved an overcrowded vessel carrying participants to an Islamic Maulid celebration, resulted in the deaths of over 200 people. In response, the Kwara State Government provided ₦2 million in medical support for survivors. Related News:
