Former Jamie Carragher has outlined the teams he believes will dominate the Premier League in the coming campaign, pointing to two sides as the strongest challengers. His remarks followed a dramatic clash where Liverpool FC suffered a narrow loss against Manchester United in Sunday’s league fixture. Carragher dismissed the chances of both Liverpool and Manchester United lifting the title next season, instead suggesting that the battle for supremacy will come down to Arsenal FC and Manchester City. Liverpool’s difficult run continued with a 3-2 defeat at Old Trafford. The match saw the visitors fall two goals behind before mounting a comeback effort. Strikes from Dominik Szoboszlai and Cody Gakpo restored parity, but a late goal from Kobbie Mainoo in the 77th minute sealed the win for the home side. That result ensured Manchester United’s qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League while solidifying their hold on third position in the standings, maintaining a six-point cushion over Liverpool with only three matches remaining. Following the encounter, Gary Neville expressed optimism about United’s trajectory, suggesting the club could soon emerge as serious title challengers within the next couple of seasons. Carragher, however, disagreed with that outlook. While acknowledging Liverpool’s relative squad strength compared to United, he emphasized that neither side appears ready to compete for the championship in the immediate future. Speaking on The Gary Neville Podcast, he explained that Liverpool still possess a stronger foundation, partly due to the presence of players with proven success at the highest level. He also pointed out that the current Liverpool squad is missing several crucial contributors, which has impacted their consistency. Despite that, Carragher maintained that the title race will not involve either club next season. In his view, the competition will once again revolve around Arsenal and Manchester City, who have demonstrated superior quality and consistency. He further argued that Manchester United’s league position may not accurately reflect their overall performance level. According to him, their absence from European competitions and early exits from domestic cups have created a misleading impression of strength. Although United are set to finish third, Carragher insisted that this standing does not necessarily mean they rank as the third-best team in the league, reinforcing his belief that the true title contenders remain unchanged.
