According to reports, the man was taken into custody over serious allegations of fraud and kidnapping. Following the viral spread of the video, some online users mistakenly assumed the arrested individual was the famous singer. In response, Peter Okoye addressed the confusion through a repost on his official X account (formerly Twitter). The artist urged the public and Ghanaian police to be more precise when mentioning names in cases like this, especially when high-profile personalities are involved. In a direct and humorous Pidgin English statement, Peter Okoye wrote: “Abeg make una dey specificaly dey specify which ‘PETER OKOYE’. I no be thief.” This response was aimed at clearing his name and preventing any further misidentification. He emphasized that he has no connection with the incident and called on the authorities to clarify the identity of the suspect to avoid damaging the reputation of innocent individuals.
