The National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, has dismissed speculations suggesting that he intends to return to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Aregbesola made the clarification during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Ilesa on Sunday, where he addressed party supporters and members of the ADC. According to the former governor of Osun State, there is no justification for him to rejoin the ruling party, stressing that the APC has drifted away from the ideals upon which it was originally established. The former Minister of Interior explained that the current administration at the federal level has failed to improve the welfare of Nigerians. He stated that economic hardship, rising living costs, and poor governance have continued to affect millions of citizens across the country. While addressing supporters at the gathering, Aregbesola commended party loyalists for remaining steadfast despite what he described as intimidation and political pressure from opponents. He noted that the welfare and security of Nigerians, which are major responsibilities of any government, have not been adequately addressed by the ruling administration. The ADC chieftain maintained that his party continues to gain momentum despite political challenges and external pressure. He encouraged members not to lose hope, expressing confidence that victory would come through determination, unity, and commitment. Speaking about the forthcoming governorship election in Osun State, Aregbesola described the ADC governorship candidate, Dr. Najeem Salaam, as a dedicated and experienced politician who understands the needs of the people. According to him, Salaam possesses the capacity and determination to restore development and progress across the state if elected into office. He therefore appealed to residents and supporters to stand firmly behind the party ahead of the election. Earlier at the event, the Osun State ADC Chairman-elect, Azeez Adesiji, stated that the party remained united and fully organised despite political obstacles ahead of the August 15 governorship election. Adesiji congratulated newly elected ward, local government, and state executives of the party, describing their emergence as both a privilege and a responsibility to serve diligently. Speaking on the upcoming governorship poll, he expressed optimism that the ADC candidate would emerge victorious through collective effort, commitment, and divine support. He urged party members across the state to intensify mobilisation efforts and work tirelessly to secure victory at the election. According to him, the party has the structure, experience, and political pedigree needed to succeed once again in Osun State politics. The ADC leader also revealed plans for a statewide political campaign expected to commence within one week. He disclosed that the campaign activities would extend across all local government areas in the state and feature rallies in the nine federal constituencies. The Kaduna State Police Command has issued a formal invitation to the former Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, alongside seven prominent leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). They are being summoned in connection with allegations of criminal conspiracy, incitement of public disturbance, mischief, and causing grievous bodily harm. According to a police letter dated September 4, 2025, and signed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Uzainu Abdullahi, the ADC State Chairman was instructed to present El-Rufai and the other accused individuals before the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) on September 8, 2025. List of Individuals Summoned by the Police The document identified the following ADC leaders to appear alongside El-Rufai: The police explained that the summon falls under the case titled:“Investigation Activities: Case of Criminal Conspiracy, Inciting Disturbance of Public Peace, Mischief, and Causing Grievous Hurt.” The authorities stated that the invitation is intended to give the individuals the opportunity to respond to the allegations leveled against them. ADC Office in Kaduna Sealed by Security Operatives In a related development, security operatives sealed off the ADC party office located at No. 4 Ali Akilu Road, Kaduna on Wednesday. This occurred only a few hours before the Northwest leadership of the ADC was expected to pay a condolence visit to the state chapter. The visit was scheduled to console members who sustained injuries during a violent attack at a coalition meeting jointly held by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna the previous week. Eyewitnesses at the scene confirmed that several police patrol vans were deployed to cordon off the premises, thereby preventing party members and visitors from accessing the opposition party’s office. This development has raised further political tension in Kaduna State, especially as opposition party members view the police action as a deliberate move to suppress their activities.

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has dismissed suggestions that the coalition-supported African Democratic Congress (ADC) could significantly influence the outcome of the 2027 general elections.According to him, the recent embrace of the ADC by opposition figures has ironically made them less effective rather than boosting their political weight. Governor Sule made this known on Friday during a media chat shortly after he paid a visit to the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja. “I am not particularly concerned about the ADC,” Sule said. “From what I gathered, the ADC is not a splinter group from our party, the APC, but rather a breakaway faction from another political party. If that is the case, it means their strength has been reduced. They are not gaining ground — they are actually becoming weaker. So, as far as we are concerned in the APC, we are not worried about them.” The Governor stressed that the APC’s focus has never been on the activities of rival political groups but rather on strengthening its own structures and delivering on its promises to Nigerians. “We have never been overly concerned about the opposition,” he continued. “Our priority is always to focus on our own capacity and strategies — ensuring we fulfil our obligations to the Nigerian people. This is exactly what President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has consistently demonstrated. All APC governors are equally working hard in their respective states to support this administration’s vision, and we will continue to do so.” Sule added that, on a personal level, he avoids getting distracted by the movements of other parties. “I don’t waste time monitoring the internal affairs of other parties. My interest is firmly on what my own party, the APC, is doing to serve the people,” he noted. On Yilwatda’s Appointment as APC Chairman The Governor also spoke about the recent appointment of Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda as the APC National Chairman, describing it as a timely and strategic decision that addresses long-standing concerns in the party’s North-Central zone. “The new chairman is very much in tune with the Renewed Hope Agenda. His appointment comes at the right time — exactly when a leader with his qualities is needed. For us in the North-Central zone, who have been calling for the return of the chairmanship to our region, we now have no reason to complain. The position is back in our zone, and that is a welcome development,” Sule affirmed.
