Authorities Investigate Trans-Niger Pipeline Fire in Rivers State Amid Security Concerns

Port Harcourt, Nigeria – The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed a fire outbreak at the Trans-Niger Delta Pipeline, assuring residents that the situation is under control while investigations continue.

According to police reports, the affected facility, operated by Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), experienced a fire on Monday night. Security operatives on a routine patrol identified the incident and immediately alerted SPDC management, leading to a swift shutdown of the affected pipeline to prevent further escalation.

Police Arrest Two Suspects in Connection with Pipeline Fire

Police spokesperson, Superintendent Grace Iringe-Koko, revealed in a statement on Tuesday that two individuals have been arrested for questioning over the incident. Authorities have yet to determine whether the fire was triggered by an explosion, a spill, or potential sabotage.

“The Rivers State Police Command wishes to inform the public that a fire incident occurred at the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC)-operated Trans-Niger Delta Pipeline, located at the border of Kpor and Bodo communities,” Iringe-Koko stated.

She added that police have launched an extensive investigation into the matter, emphasizing the commitment of security forces to identifying and prosecuting any perpetrators.
