Police Donate ₦53.3 Million to Families of Deceased Officers in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command on Thursday organized a strategic security stakeholders’ forum as part of activities commemorating the 2026 National Police Day, reinforcing its dedication to community-driven policing and improved welfare for its personnel.

The gathering, which took place in Lagos, included the symbolic distribution of financial support to families of officers who died while on active duty. The event attracted participation from several key groups such as the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), the Eminent Persons Forum, religious and community leaders, alongside representatives of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN).

While addressing attendees, the Commissioner of Police, Fatai Olaiwola Tijani, praised stakeholders for their continuous cooperation in crime control and maintaining public safety. He stressed the importance of deepening partnerships to effectively address evolving security concerns across the state.

He further highlighted the need for stronger collaboration between law enforcement agencies and residents, especially in ensuring rapid responses to emergencies and sustaining peace and order within communities.

The police boss also drew attention to pressing security challenges, including cult-related activities and election-associated violence. He reassured the public that the Command remains committed to leveraging intelligence-led policing strategies and advanced technological tools to enhance operational effectiveness.

A key moment during the event was the disbursement of ₦53,387,209.48 to families of fallen officers under the Inspector-General of Police Family Welfare Scheme. This initiative underscores the Nigeria Police Force’s ongoing commitment to providing support for families of personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.

Recipients of the financial aid expressed appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police and the Lagos State Command, stating that the assistance would significantly help alleviate the hardships faced after the loss of their loved ones.

Reiterating the Force’s stance, the Commissioner assured that the bravery and sacrifices of the deceased officers would always be honored, emphasizing that continued support for their families remains a priority.
