The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has strongly denounced the recent violent incident that occurred in Angwan Rukuba, located in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The tragic event led to the loss of several innocent lives, sparking concern across the region.
In swift reaction, the police chief directed an extensive deployment of security personnel and operational resources to the affected area. The primary objective is to restore peace, stabilize the environment, and ensure that all individuals involved in the attack are identified and brought to justice.
The Inspector-General also expressed his condolences to the Executive Governor of Plateau State, as well as to the residents and families impacted by the incident, especially those within the Angwan Rukuba community. He acknowledged the pain and disruption caused by the attack and reassured the public of the police force’s commitment to addressing the situation decisively.
As part of earlier interventions, the IGP had already assigned the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, DIG Umar Shehu Nadada, to travel to Plateau State. His mission includes evaluating the current security conditions, coordinating field operations, and reinforcing the existing security framework to improve response effectiveness.
Building on these efforts, the police leadership has now escalated operations by introducing additional tactical units, including specialized teams from the Police Mobile Force and intelligence personnel. These reinforcements are working collaboratively with other security agencies to combat emerging threats and prevent any further deterioration of law and order throughout the state.
The Inspector-General emphasized that these intensified measures will remain in place until full normalcy is restored. He further directed all operational commanders to maintain a strong and visible presence within communities, while also fostering engagement with residents, particularly in areas considered vulnerable.
Addressing the public, the police chief urged citizens to stay calm yet alert, cooperate fully with law enforcement authorities, and avoid taking matters into their own hands. He stressed the importance of community support in maintaining security and encouraged individuals to promptly report any suspicious movements or incidents to the appropriate agencies to aid ongoing operations.
