Peter Obi Couldn’t Rescue Anambra, Let Alone Nigeria – SGF George Akume

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, has criticized the former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over his political performance and leadership record. Speaking during a media briefing held on Friday in Abuja, Akume stated that Peter Obi’s past administration in Anambra State was far from exemplary, arguing that the former governor lacked the capacity to handle national responsibilities.

According to Akume, if Obi could not effectively “rescue” Anambra State during his tenure as governor, it would be unrealistic for him to claim he could “rescue Nigeria” — a country with 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Akume emphasized that leadership at the national level demands not just rhetoric but evidence of results and sustainable impact at the state level.

The SGF maintained that Peter Obi’s administration left several unresolved issues in Anambra, ranging from poor infrastructural development to limited industrial growth. He further noted that Obi’s leadership style lacked the strategic foresight necessary to address Nigeria’s multifaceted economic and governance challenges.

Akume’s remarks come amid renewed political discussions surrounding the 2023 presidential elections, where Peter Obi emerged as one of the most popular opposition candidates, especially among young Nigerians.
