The Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti has received glowing tributes from the Ogun State Government and prominent Nigerians as he marks his 100th birthday anniversary.
The celebration of the respected nationalist and Yoruba leader has drawn admiration from political figures, traditional rulers, associates, and supporters across the country, highlighting his remarkable contributions to Nigeria’s democratic journey and national development.
In a statement personally signed by Dapo Abiodun, the Ogun State Governor described Pa Fasoranti as a shining symbol of patriotism, integrity, principled leadership, and unwavering commitment to democratic values.
Governor Abiodun praised the elder statesman for his enduring impact on Nigeria’s political history, noting that his role in the country’s democratic evolution remains unforgettable.
According to the governor, Pa Fasoranti, who was born in Akure about a century ago, distinguished himself in several areas of public service, including education, administration, politics, and advocacy for good governance.
The governor recalled that the respected Afenifere leader served as Commissioner for Finance in the old Ondo State during the administration of late former governor, Michael Adekunle Ajasin, between 1979 and 1983.
Beyond politics, Pa Fasoranti also made meaningful contributions to the educational sector through the establishment and expansion of schools, including Omolere Nursery School and extensions of Akure High School. His passion for education and youth development has continued to inspire many Nigerians over the years.
Governor Abiodun further stated that the elder statesman remained one of the leading voices advocating democracy, true federalism, and restructuring in Nigeria. He acknowledged Pa Fasoranti’s active involvement in pro-democracy struggles alongside renowned nationalist leader Obafemi Awolowo and other advocates of democratic governance.
The governor noted that despite experiencing persecution and difficult moments during Nigeria’s military era, the Afenifere leader remained resolute in his belief that democracy represents the best path toward national unity, stability, and sustainable development.
Describing the centenarian as a national asset and a source of wisdom, Governor Abiodun stated that Pa Fasoranti’s guidance, moral influence, and leadership qualities continue to inspire both older and younger generations of leaders across Nigeria.
“The Government and People of Ogun State celebrate Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti at 100 and pray that Almighty God grants him many more fruitful years in good health and peace,” the statement added.
Pa Fasoranti officially clocks 100 on Sunday, with several political leaders, traditional rulers, dignitaries, and close associates expected to attend activities organised in celebration of his life, achievements, and legacy of service to Nigeria.
