The Abia State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has reiterated its commitment to protecting farmers and agricultural communities across the state.

During the 1st Abia NUJ Agric Show 2025 held at the Police Officers Mess, Umuahia, Commandant Akinsola Aderemi emphasized the agency’s ongoing role in maintaining peace in rural farming communities. The agricultural exhibition was organized by the Abia Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) as a strategic move to address widespread hunger and food insecurity.

Speaking through I. White, the officer leading the Agro Rangers Unit, Commandant Aderemi highlighted that the NSCDC’s specialized unit has continued to ensure security for farmers across Abia, enabling them to carry out agricultural activities without fear.

According to the Commandant, ensuring safety on farmlands directly boosts food production and agricultural output. He noted that the Agro Rangers are actively involved in resolving security challenges such as a recent conflict between farmers and herdsmen in the Obehie area of the state.

He praised the NUJ leadership in Abia for organizing the Agric Show and using it as a platform to sensitize Nigerians on the importance of agriculture as a solution to national hunger.

In their respective remarks, Eze Linus Nto Mbah, Chairman of the Abia State Council of Ndieze, and Dr. Boniface Iheanyichukwu Ariekpere, Chairman of the occasion, encouraged Abia youth to explore agriculture as a reliable path to defeat hunger and reduce unemployment.

Earlier, Chidi Asonye, Chairman of the NUJ Abia State Council, decried the growing level of hunger among Nigerians due to skyrocketing food prices. He emphasized that the 1st Abia NUJ Agric Show was conceived as a direct response to the national crisis of food insecurity.

He called for immediate and coordinated actions to tackle the worsening food supply situation across the country.
