Nigeria’s Growth: Tinubu Urges Nigerians Abroad to Invest in the Nation’s Future

President Bola Tinubu has once again called on Nigerians living abroad to channel their investments and resources back home in order to foster national development and economic stability.

Speaking during an interactive session with members of the Nigerian community in Japan, on the sidelines of the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9), President Tinubu emphasized that Nigeria is on the rise under his leadership.

According to a statement issued by his Senior Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the president highlighted that his administration is focused on rebuilding trust and creating an enabling environment for growth. He reiterated that leadership is not just about promises but about “thinking and doing” — driving measurable change that every Nigerian can feel.

Key Areas of National Progress Highlighted by Tinubu

The president noted that his administration has already taken significant steps in different sectors to improve the well-being of Nigerians:

• Passport Issuance: Ongoing improvements have reduced delays and increased efficiency in processing travel documents.
• Healthcare Development: Efforts are underway to reduce medical tourism by upgrading hospitals, expanding facilities, and improving healthcare access across the nation.
• Economic Transformation: Policies are being implemented to attract investment, boost entrepreneurship, and create sustainable opportunities for Nigerians at home and abroad.

A Call to Nigerians Abroad

Tinubu acknowledged that while many Nigerians in the diaspora choose to remain abroad for personal and economic reasons, the opportunities back home are increasingly attractive.

“I am happy to listen to you. I am happy to report that many of our people are returning home. Yes, for economic reasons, some may choose to stay away; it’s their right. But for the opportunities available in Nigeria today, don’t stay away,” the president urged.

He emphasized that true citizenship goes beyond holding a Nigerian passport. It is reflected in character, values, and commitment to the country’s growth. Tinubu encouraged citizens abroad to contribute positively to nation-building, warning against negative portrayals of Nigeria which discourage much-needed investment and partnerships.

The president’s remarks echo his consistent message of diaspora engagement as a crucial factor in driving Nigeria’s economic revival. By attracting investments from citizens abroad, his government aims to strengthen the economy, enhance national pride, and ensure sustainable growth.
