Nigerian Government Issues Travel Advisory as Kara Bridge Repairs Commence in Lagos

The Federal Ministry of Works has released an official travel advisory for motorists following its earlier announcement regarding scheduled repairs on the Kara Bridge, located along the outbound Lagos corridor. The maintenance involves replacing damaged expansion joints to ensure the bridge’s structural integrity.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the Federal Controller of Works in Ogun State, Olayiwola Komolafe, the ministry confirmed that repair work will begin on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, and is expected to continue for two weeks, concluding on March 24, 2026.

To reduce traffic congestion and ensure smoother travel during this period, motorists have been urged to use alternative routes.

Recommended Alternative Routes

• Traveling from Ikorodu towards Mowe, Sagamu, and Ibadan: Drivers are advised to use the Shimawa or Mosinmi routes.
• Traveling from Lagos Island: Motorists may opt for the Epe corridor via Ijebu Ode to access Sagamu, Ibadan, and Mowe.

The ministry emphasized the importance of careful journey planning, noting that the shortest route may not always equate to the quickest travel time during the repair period. Additionally, motorists are reminded to adhere to all traffic management guidelines and exercise caution around the construction zone.

While acknowledging that the partial temporary closure of the Kara Bridge may lead to some inconvenience, the ministry appealed for public patience and understanding. The works are crucial to enhance the safety, durability, and stability of Nigeria’s road infrastructure.
