A former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has regained his freedom after being released from the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on Friday.

The development was disclosed by his son, Bashir El-Rufai, through a message shared on X (formerly Twitter). In his statement, Bashir expressed strong emotions regarding his father’s detention and subsequent release, describing the situation as deeply challenging for the family. He also appreciated the support they received during the period, noting that the experience would remain unforgettable for them.

According to his remarks, the family views the release as a significant moment after what they described as an unjust period in custody. He emphasized their resilience, stating that they have emerged stronger despite the circumstances surrounding the detention.

This development occurred on the same day the family suffered a personal loss, as El-Rufai’s mother, Hajiya Umma, passed away following an illness in Cairo, Egypt. The timing of both events adds a somber dimension to what would otherwise be a moment of relief for the family.

El-Rufai had been in ICPC custody since February 18 over allegations related to financial misconduct and associated issues. The case drew public attention, given his prominence in Nigerian politics and his previous role as governor.

His release now shifts focus toward the next phase of the matter, as observers await further clarification or legal proceedings concerning the allegations.
