Portuguese football manager José Mourinho has denied reports claiming that Real Madrid contacted him over the club’s managerial position.

The current Benfica boss addressed the rumours during his pre-match press conference ahead of Benfica’s important league encounter against Braga on Sunday.

In recent days, Mourinho’s name has repeatedly surfaced in discussions surrounding the managerial situation at Real Madrid. The experienced Portuguese tactician has long been associated with the Spanish giants due to his successful spell at the Santiago Bernabéu in previous years.

Real Madrid are still reportedly evaluating long-term coaching options after parting ways with Xabi Alonso a few months ago. Following Alonso’s departure, the club temporarily appointed Álvaro Arbeloa as caretaker manager until the conclusion of the current campaign.

Speaking to journalists, Mourinho made it clear that no communication has taken place between him and the Real Madrid hierarchy regarding a possible return to Spain.

According to Mourinho, he has intentionally avoided discussing any managerial matters as the season approaches its closing stages.

“I have not had any contact with the Real Madrid club management, and due to my own decision, especially at the end of the season, I will not discuss these matters with anyone,” Mourinho stated during the media briefing.

The former Chelsea, Inter Milan, Manchester United, and Roma manager further emphasized that he does not intend to speak publicly about speculation concerning his future at this time.

Mourinho remains focused on Benfica’s domestic campaign as the club continues its push for strong performances in the Portuguese league. Despite ongoing rumours linking him with several top European clubs, the veteran manager appears determined to keep his attention on his current responsibilities.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid supporters continue to speculate over who will eventually take charge of the club on a permanent basis. The managerial search has attracted attention across European football, with several elite coaches reportedly being monitored by the Spanish powerhouse.

Mourinho previously managed Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013, winning major trophies and helping the club remain competitive at the highest level during his tenure. His earlier spell with Los Blancos strengthened his reputation as one of football’s most accomplished managers.

As speculation continues across the football world, Mourinho’s latest comments suggest there is currently no agreement or direct negotiation between him and the LaLiga giants.
