Super Eagles first-choice goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has openly shared insights into the inspiration behind his goalkeeping journey, naming Brazilian legend Dida as the figure he admires most in football.
According to Okoye, although he has never physically met Dida, he has had indirect communication with him through conversations, which left a lasting impression. The Nigerian international expressed deep respect for the former AC Milan star, highlighting qualities that shaped his own development between the posts.
Okoye described Dida as exceptionally agile, quick in reactions, and commanding on the field. He emphasized that beyond technical skill, Dida possessed a strong personality and presence during matches — attributes that distinguish elite goalkeepers from average performers.
While reflecting on legendary figures, Okoye also acknowledged David de Gea as one of football’s iconic shot-stoppers. He praised De Gea’s consistency and remarkable performances over the years, referring to him as a dominant force in goalkeeping history.
