The Kwankwasiyya Movement has firmly denied widespread reports suggesting that its national leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is considering exiting the National Democratic Congress (NDC) following an alleged disagreement concerning the party’s list of candidates.
Speaking with DAILY POST, the spokesperson of the movement, Habeeb Saleh Mohammed, described the reports making rounds across social media platforms as inaccurate and without any factual basis.
According to Mohammed, the movement followed all legal procedures and complied fully with the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the conduct of its recent primary elections.
He explained that the primaries were successfully conducted nationwide on the 29th of the previous month, with all necessary consultations and consensus-building efforts completed before the exercise took place.
Mohammed noted that the process enabled candidates to emerge for various positions without any major objections from party stakeholders, aspirants, or members across different regions.
He further emphasized that the exercise was peaceful, transparent, and generally accepted by those who participated.
Primaries Conducted in Line with Electoral Guidelines
Providing additional clarification, the spokesperson stated that every stage of the primaries was carried out according to established electoral regulations and party procedures.
He explained that prior engagements and negotiations among party stakeholders helped create a consensus-driven atmosphere that allowed candidates to emerge smoothly.
According to him, no formal complaints were submitted by contestants or party members throughout the process, indicating broad acceptance of the outcomes.
The movement believes that the successful conduct of the primaries demonstrates its commitment to internal democracy and adherence to electoral laws.
Results Already Submitted to Party Leadership
Mohammed disclosed that the outcome of the primary elections has already been forwarded to the appropriate party authorities for further administrative actions.
He stated that the responsibility now lies with the party leadership to complete the remaining procedures required under the party’s framework and electoral guidelines.
The spokesperson maintained that the movement has fulfilled its obligations and remains focused on supporting the party’s objectives ahead of future political activities.
No Discussion About Kwankwaso Leaving the Party
Addressing the speculation directly, Mohammed stressed that there had never been any discussion within the movement concerning Kwankwaso’s departure from the NDC.
He reiterated that the reports circulating online do not reflect the position of the movement and should not be regarded as credible information.
According to him, the leadership and members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement remain united and committed to their political engagement within the party.
“There was never a time such an issue was discussed regarding our party leader leaving the party. That remains our official position,” Mohammed stated.
Public Advised to Ignore Speculation
The movement has called on supporters, party members, and the general public to disregard what it described as misleading reports intended to create confusion.
Mohammed emphasized that the group remains focused on its political objectives and continues to support the party’s activities without any internal crisis related to its leadership.
The clarification follows reports alleging that Kwankwaso was preparing to withdraw his political structure from the NDC due to disagreements over candidate nominations.
Reports Linked to Alleged Candidate List Controversy
The controversy reportedly emerged following claims that the national leadership of the party altered several candidate names submitted by the Kwankwasiyya bloc in Kano State.
According to the reports, the alleged changes were connected to the implementation of a previously agreed 60/40 power-sharing arrangement designed to accommodate different political interests within the party structure.
The reports suggested that dissatisfaction over the alleged adjustments had generated tension between party stakeholders.
However, the Kwankwasiyya Movement has dismissed suggestions that the issue could result in Kwankwaso abandoning the party.
Social Media Claims Dismissed
Earlier reports that gained attention across social media platforms claimed that Kwankwaso had resolved to leave the NDC because the party allegedly refused to accept a list of consensus candidates from Kano State.
The reports further alleged that the decision was linked to disagreements involving candidate selection and internal party arrangements.
Despite the growing speculation online, the movement insists that there is no plan for its leader to leave the party and that its members remain committed to working within the existing political structure.
For now, the Kwankwasiyya Movement maintains that the rumours are unfounded and should be treated as misinformation until verified through official channels.
