Kano 2027: ALGON Chair, Husband Distance Themselves From Gov Yusuf’s Reconciliation Committee

The reconciliation process introduced ahead of the 2027 general elections in Kano State has continued to generate mixed reactions among political stakeholders as the committee established by Abba Kabir Yusuf intensified consultations with aspirants and party stakeholders across different federal constituencies and state assembly districts.

The peace initiative, which was designed to strengthen internal unity and reduce political tension within the ruling party before the forthcoming elections, has received support from many party members. However, some influential figures were noticeably absent from the ongoing engagements.

Among those who reportedly stayed away from the reconciliation meeting were the Chairperson of Tudun-Wada Local Government and Kano State chapter Chairperson of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Hajiya Sa’adatu Salisu Yusha’u, alongside her husband, Salisu Yusha’u.

The reconciliation committee is headed by Hon. Bala Muhammad Gwagwarwa, a former National Treasurer of the All Progressives Congress (APC), while Professor Nura Yaro serves as the committee secretary. The panel was constituted to resolve disagreements among party aspirants, encourage dialogue, and reinforce unity within the APC structure ahead of the 2027 elections.

Other members serving on the committee include Hon. Mutari Ishaq Yakasai and former Commissioner for Women Affairs, Hajiya Zahara’u, among several others entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring peaceful consultations among party stakeholders.

Earlier, Governor Yusuf directed all aspirants interested in contesting elective positions under the APC platform to return to their constituencies, engage local stakeholders, and work toward achieving consensus arrangements as part of the first stage of the reconciliation process.

As the committee continued its consultations, attention shifted toward the Doguwa/Tudun-Wada Federal Constituency, which has recently remained politically sensitive due to the rivalry between the serving lawmaker, Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa, and House of Representatives aspirant, Salisu Yusha’u.

Reports indicated that stakeholders within the constituency had previously endorsed Hon. Doguwa for the 2027 election under the APC platform, a decision believed to have gained the support of Governor Yusuf.

Meanwhile, Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa attended the reconciliation session held at the Kano State Government House and actively participated in the discussions aimed at strengthening cooperation within the party.

Speaking on the development, the committee secretary, Professor Nura Yaro D-Tofa, together with Hon. Mutari Ishaq Yakasai, confirmed that both Hajiya Sa’adatu and Salisu Yusha’u did not attend the meeting.

They explained that the reconciliation process remains active and has already covered more than seven federal constituencies as well as 13 state assembly constituencies throughout Kano State.

According to the committee members, the consultations have continued peacefully, with optimism that the assignment will be concluded successfully within a short period.

Political analysts and observers have continued to express concern regarding the absence of Hajiya Sa’adatu and Salisu Yusha’u despite the governor’s appeal urging all aspirants and stakeholders to fully participate in the reconciliation exercise.

Observers believe the absence may be viewed by some party members as a sign of reluctance toward the peace-building process and could create unfavorable political interpretations ahead of the 2027 general elections in Kano State.

Despite the concerns being raised, the reconciliation committee maintained that it remains committed to promoting unity, cooperation, and collective political success within the APC as preparations for the next general elections gather momentum.
