Kaduna Man Sentenced to 12 Strokes for Stealing Plastic Chairs

A 24-year-old Kaduna resident, Edward Williams, was sentenced to 12 strokes of the cane for stealing 12 plastic chairs valued at N224,000. The incident occurred after Williams, who resides in the Ungwan Yelwa Television area, was found guilty of breaking into a shop owned by Sarah Nehemiah in Sabon Tasha, Kaduna.

According to prosecutor Chidi Leo, Williams gained entry through the ceiling and took the chairs early in the morning. He was apprehended by a security guard and later confessed to the crime at the police station, where the stolen items were subsequently recovered.

Chief Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel, who presided over the case, noted that Williams’ guilty plea helped avoid a lengthy trial, resulting in a lighter sentence. The offence contravenes the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
