The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced a two-week extension of Nigeria’s nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, while also unveiling a new digital self-service registration platform designed to make voter registration more accessible for eligible Nigerians.
The latest development is expected to give thousands of citizens who have not yet registered another opportunity to be included in the National Register of Voters ahead of future elections, while marking a significant step in the commission’s ongoing efforts to modernize Nigeria’s electoral system.
Registration Deadline Moved to July 24
According to a statement released by INEC on Friday, the Continuous Voter Registration exercise, which commenced on August 18, 2025, will now conclude on Friday, July 24, 2026, instead of the previously scheduled July 10, 2026 deadline.
The commission explained that the decision followed an assessment of the ongoing registration exercise and consultations with various stakeholders, including INEC state offices, political parties, civil society organisations, and other groups involved in Nigeria’s electoral process.
