The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State has urgently called for a thorough investigation into the murder of its legal adviser, Chinedu Nwowu, in Oru West Local Government Area. The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday, January 22, when Nwowu was shot and killed by unidentified assailants in Mgbidi.

In a strongly-worded statement, the party’s publicity secretary, Lancelot Obiaku, condemned the brutal killing, emphasizing that it highlights the growing insecurity in the region, where human life appears to have little value.

Until his untimely death, Nwowu served as the PDP’s Legal Adviser in Oru West LGA. He was a dedicated and passionate leader, known for his significant contributions to the party’s development. Described as a vibrant young lawyer, a skilled mobilizer, and a respected community leader, Nwowu was admired by many for his relentless work ethic and commitment to his cause.

The PDP expressed deep sympathy to the Nwowu family, offering prayers for the eternal rest of the deceased’s soul and strength for all affected by the loss, especially party members. The statement also emphasized how deeply he would be missed within the party.

The PDP is calling on the relevant security agencies to expedite justice for the slain lawyer, demanding that the perpetrators be swiftly brought to justice and held accountable for their heinous crime.

This tragic incident, the party noted, is a stark reminder of the rising insecurity in Imo State. In the same month that Nwowu was killed, gunmen carried out coordinated attacks in Orsu Local Government Area, killing at least 27 people in the communities of Amaebu, Awo-Idemili, Eziawa, and Umuhu-Okabia, including the brutal slaughter of 9 men in a shop.

The PDP spokesperson pointed out that such violent crimes have become an all-too-common occurrence in the state since 2020.

In light of these developments, the party called on the state government under Governor Hope Uzodinma to take immediate action to address the worsening security situation. The PDP stressed that the government cannot continue to ignore its responsibility to protect the lives and property of Imo State citizens, particularly considering the considerable security resources allocated to the state.
