Killers Strike as Vandals Raid Public Infrastructure in Port Harcourt

Authorities in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, are investigating the tragic murder of a man and his son, who were shot dead by unidentified gunmen. The attack, which occurred in the early hours of the morning, has intensified concerns about criminal activities targeting public infrastructure in the city.

The Rivers State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that the attack took place on Omuelu Farm Road, Igwuruta-Ali, within the Obio/Akpor area of the city. The victims were identified as 59-year-old Timothy, a chief security officer at Adokiye Amieseimeka International Stadium, and his eldest son.

According to a police report, Timothy’s daughter, Omolara, informed authorities that her father and brother were ambushed by four armed men, who shot them in the head at close range. Despite emergency response efforts, both victims were pronounced dead at the hospital.

The police recovered three expended AK-47 cartridges from the crime scene and have launched an intensive investigation to track down the perpetrators.

Police Launch Manhunt for Suspects

Police spokesperson Superintendent Grace Iringe-Koko revealed that the Rivers State Commissioner of Police has deployed intelligence units to capture the fleeing gunmen. She reassured the public that security agencies are working tirelessly to ensure justice is served.

In a related development, police arrested two suspected vandals linked to a syndicate responsible for stealing and vandalizing public infrastructure, including solar-powered streetlights and manhole covers.

Vandals Caught Stealing Solar Lights in Port Harcourt

Acting on credible intelligence, officers from the Trans-Amadi Division apprehended two suspects attempting to steal NDDC-installed solar streetlights along Danjuma Drive, Trans-Amadi Road.

The arrested suspects, identified as:

Shaibu Yusuf (30) from Bolari Town, Gombe State
Ibrahim Abubakar (28) from Katsina State

Both suspects were residents of Okuru scrap dump, Abuloma Community, Port Harcourt. Items recovered from them include:

Solar light poles
Solar panels
Panel bolts and nuts
A knife

Vandals Confess, More Arrests Expected

During interrogation, the suspects admitted to being part of an organized gang that specializes in stealing solar lights and manhole covers across Port Harcourt. They have been charged to court, while law enforcement continues efforts to track down their accomplices.
