Veteran Nigerian actress and prominent film producer, Ego Boyo, has openly addressed the longstanding misconception surrounding her unexpected departure from acting during the height of her fame. Contrary to popular assumptions, Boyo made it clear that her decision to leave the screen was not influenced by her husband or any external pressure.
The acclaimed actress explained that while the public had speculated for years that she was banned from acting by her spouse, the truth was far less dramatic. She emphasized that the decision was driven by a natural shift in passion—from performing in front of the camera to working behind the scenes as a film producer.
“I stepped away from acting when I realized I enjoyed producing much more than acting. Acting had become dull and monotonous for me. The media tried to turn it into a scandal, suggesting my husband stopped me from acting. They wanted drama, but it simply wasn’t true,” Ego Boyo stated in the interview.
Her comments have now put to rest the years-long rumors that her exit from the entertainment spotlight was due to marital interference. Rather, she took control of her career path and found greater satisfaction and challenge in film production.
Since then, she has become a respected figure in the Nigerian film industry, shifting her focus to producing socially impactful films that address real-life issues while nurturing emerging talents in the creative space.
