Cleric Calls on Tinubu to Address Insecurity and Economic Hardship in Northern Nigeria

A prominent religious leader has urged President Bola Tinubu to take immediate and decisive measures to confront the worsening security crisis and economic difficulties affecting Northern Nigeria.

The Chairman of TEKAN/ECWA, Rev. Andemun Musa, made this appeal during the First Quarter Combined Service of TEKAN/ECWA held in Taraba State in 2026. Speaking during the gathering, he expressed deep concern over the ongoing violence in the northern region, particularly incidents he described as deliberate attacks targeting Christian communities.

Rev. Musa emphasized that the persistent insecurity has continued to threaten lives, destabilize communities, and hinder development across the region. He called on the federal government to act swiftly, noting that the situation requires urgent and strategic intervention to restore peace and protect vulnerable populations.

In addition to security concerns, the cleric highlighted the growing economic challenges facing Nigerians, especially those in low-income groups. According to him, millions of citizens are struggling under severe financial pressure, making it necessary for national leaders to strengthen policies that will ease hardship and improve living conditions.

Despite his concerns at the national level, Rev. Musa acknowledged efforts made by the Taraba State government. He commended Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas for notable progress in enhancing security within the state. He also praised certain policies introduced by the administration, which he said have contributed positively to the welfare of residents.

Earlier during the service, the guest speaker, Bishop Ande I. Emmanuel of the United Methodist Church Nigeria, delivered a sermon encouraging believers to remain spiritually steadfast despite current challenges. The bishop, who also supervises mission districts in Cameroon and Senegal, spoke on the theme “Be Still,” based on Psalm 46:10.

In his message, Bishop Emmanuel urged Christians to stay attentive to divine guidance, even in times of uncertainty caused by economic, political, and social pressures. He stressed the importance of spiritual stability, noting that faith should remain strong regardless of external circumstances.

He further warned against increasing divisions within the Christian community. According to him, disunity and internal conflicts weaken the collective strength of believers and may contribute to worsening societal challenges. He advised Christians to remain committed to biblical teachings and the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

The bishop also pointed out that religious titles, affiliations, or denominational identities do not determine eternal outcomes. Instead, he encouraged believers to focus on genuine spiritual growth, unity, and obedience to God’s word.

He concluded by calling for reflection and cooperation among Christians, stressing that unity is essential for overcoming both spiritual and societal challenges.
