Pastor Chris Oyakhilome DSc DSc DD The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree. Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins (Acts 5:30-31). What we just read brings to mind the words of the Lord Jesus when He appeared to Saul of Tarsus. He told him He was sending him to the Gentiles, “To open their eyes…that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me” (Acts 26:18). Notice the emphasis in the latter part on receiving forgiveness of sins, not asking for it. You’re to “take” forgiveness of sins. Read that latter part again and see the connection between receiving forgiveness of sins and our inheritance; they’re both under the same Greek word “Lambano.” The same way you receive an inheritance is how you receive forgiveness. Just as it’s pointless to ask for your inheritance again and again, for the Bible says in Him (Christ Jesus) we have obtained an inheritance (Ephesians 1:11), it’s superfluous to keep asking God for forgiveness. That’s because in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, forgiveness is in the package; you receive it and make it yours. Read 1 John 1:9 and notice that it doesn’t say, “ask for forgiveness”; rather, it says to acknowledge your sins. Why? It’s because He’s already provided for your forgiveness. What He wants you to do is to obtain forgiveness; receive it. It’s important that we teach people the accurate Word of God. If Satan can keep you asking for forgiveness again and again and you aren’t sure whether or not you’re being forgiven, he will make you ineffective in your Christian life and unable to do the things that God has called you to do. Your faith will be weak. The Father knows this, and that’s the reason He provided for your forgiveness. If you did something wrong in your life and you are thinking about what to do, stop asking and trying to wait to know whether or not God has forgiven you; receive (“lambano”—Greek) forgiveness; take it! You say, “Father, I acknowledge that this thing I did is wrong, and I receive forgiveness in the Name of Jesus.” That puts the responsibility on you not on God. It’s no longer a question of whether or not God has forgiven you; rather, it’s about whether you have received what He already made available to you. Forgiveness is part of that Gospel package. Hallelujah! This song selection will help you pray better, www.loveworldlyrics.com/moment-of-prayer-playlist/ . PRAYERDear Father, I rejoice in the inheritance I have obtained in Christ, knowing that forgiveness is part of the Gospel package. I walk in the freedom and victory you’ve provided, empowered to live a life that glorifies you. I live an effective Christian life, knowing that I’ve been justified by faith. Now, I walk in righteousness and produce fruits of righteousness, in Jesus’ Name. Amen. Discover the alarming rise in aphrodisiac abuse in Nigeria, its health dangers, and the societal pressures fueling this trend. Learn why experts warn against unregulated sex enhancers. The Hidden Epidemic: Unmasking the Dangers of Aphrodisiac Abuse in Nigeria From discreet whispers in markets to bold promotions online, the demand for aphrodisiacs, commonly referred to as sex enhancers, is on a startling rise in Nigeria. Once a taboo topic, the use of these products has become alarmingly common, driven by societal pressures, financial stress, and evolving perceptions of sexuality. Recent studies reveal that over 40% of aphrodisiac users in Nigeria are young adults aged 21 to 30. These products, often seen as a quick fix for confidence or relationship issues, pose grave health risks and have silently led many to untimely deaths. A Thriving Yet Dangerous Market Aphrodisiacs in Nigeria are sold openly, ranging from herbal concoctions to unregulated pharmaceuticals. Many of these products, such as Coco Samba, Jekonmo, Bruntashi, and Koboko, are not approved by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). Their widespread availability, hawked by unlicensed vendors, raises significant health concerns. NAFDAC recently seized unregistered sex-enhancing drugs worth ₦12 million in Sokoto. The products were deemed unsafe due to harmful ingredients and inappropriate packaging featuring explicit imagery. The Human Toll of Aphrodisiac Abuse John’s Story: A Costly Dependence John, a Lagos-based worker, uses herbal supplements to cope with marital demands despite the side effects of headaches and financial strain. “I rely on these products to maintain peace at home,” he admits, illustrating the societal pressure to perform. Isaac’s Near-Fatal Encounter Isaac, a 23-year-old, overdosed on an aphrodisiac called Colorado, resulting in a night of continuous erection and a harrowing experience with three women. The incident highlights the reckless use of these substances among young people. Dele’s Medical Struggles Dele, suffering from erectile dysfunction, turned to unregulated enhancers after facing humiliation in his marriage. However, the misuse of these products exacerbated his health problems rather than solving them. Health Risks of Unregulated Aphrodisiacs Medical experts warn of severe consequences, including: Consultant Urologist Dr. Saliu Abdulmalid Niran stresses that most aphrodisiac users do not need them. Social pressures and exaggerated narratives about sexual performance drive unnecessary experimentation, leading to significant health risks. A Call for Regulation and Awareness NAFDAC Director General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, advises caution against unregulated enhancers. “Trust your natural abilities,” she says, urging individuals to consult professionals for genuine sexual health concerns. Studies confirm that improper use of aphrodisiacs can lead to preventable health hazards, including chronic diseases and, in extreme cases, death. For young adults, curiosity often leads to addiction, further complicating their lives. Final Thoughts The rising abuse of aphrodisiacs in Nigeria demands urgent attention. With societal pressures fueling this dangerous trend, public education and stricter regulation are essential to safeguard lives. Remember, your health is irreplaceable—seek professional advice rather than resorting to unregulated substances. Court Approves EFCC’s Motion to Freeze 24 Bank Accounts Over Terrorism Financing Abuja, Nigeria – A Federal High Court in Abuja has authorized the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to freeze 24 bank accounts across various financial institutions over allegations of terrorism financing. Justice Emeka Nwite granted the EFCC’s request following an ex-parte motion moved by the commission’s counsel, Martha Babatunde. The accounts will remain frozen for 90 days, enabling the EFCC to conclude its investigations into the matter. Allegations and Investigation Details The ex-parte motion, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/1897/V/2024, was filed by senior advocate Ekele Iheanacho. The accounts under investigation are owned by Lawrence Lucky Eromosele, who is allegedly linked to kidnapping and money laundering activities. According to preliminary investigations, these accounts have been used by individuals exploiting cryptocurrency platforms to manipulate the naira’s value and launder illicit funds. Mohammed Khalil, an investigator with the EFCC’s Special Investigation Team under the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA), affirmed the ongoing probe. Threats to Security Personnel Khalil disclosed that the EFCC launched the investigation after directives from National Security Adviser (NSA) Nuhu Ribadu. A syndicate had threatened senior NSA operatives and their families, demanding ransom payments while sharing sensitive personal details like home addresses and movements. The investigation identified Eromosele as a key suspect, with bank accounts linked to these criminal activities. Khalil provided evidence, including chat logs and bank statements, to substantiate the claims. Court Ruling Justice Nwite approved the EFCC’s request to freeze the accounts, citing the need to preserve funds linked to terrorism and money laundering until the investigation concludes. A tragic accident involving a pilot vehicle in Benue Governor Hyacinth Alia’s convoy claimed one life and injured another. Dusty roads in Vandeikya LGA are said to be the cause. A tragic road accident involving a pilot vehicle from Governor Hyacinth Alia’s convoy in Benue State has claimed one life and left another person injured. The incident occurred in the ancient town of Ihugh, located in Vandeikya Local Government Area (LGA). According to reports, the Governor, a native of Vandeikya LGA, was traveling home for Christmas celebrations. The accident happened as his convoy was en route to an event in his hometown. One of the vehicles in the convoy reportedly veered off the road due to poor visibility caused by excessive dust, colliding with a motorcycle. An eyewitness explained that the dusty condition of the road, worsened by multiple vehicles traveling simultaneously, likely caused the driver to lose control. “The driver hit a motorbike rider, leading to the death of one passenger and injuries to another,” the source stated. Chief Solomon Iorpev, the Governor’s Technical Adviser on Media, Publicity, and Strategic Communication, confirmed that the ill-fated vehicle was part of the Governor’s fleet but clarified that it was not traveling with the main convoy at the time of the crash. He attributed the accident to poor visibility caused by dust and an attempt to avoid an oncoming vehicle. “The vehicle was alone on an assignment when it was involved in the accident. The dusty road, coupled with an oncoming vehicle, caused the driver to swerve and hit the motorcycle,” Chief Iorpev explained. Meanwhile, Superintendent Catherine Anene, the Police Public Relations Officer for Benue State, stated that the Command had not yet received an official report on the incident. This unfortunate accident underscores the dangers posed by Nigeria’s dusty, unpaved roads and the need for improved road infrastructure to prevent such tragedies. The Presidency addresses Governor Bala Mohammed’s critical remarks on President Tinubu’s tax reform policies, urging collaboration over confrontation for Nigeria’s development. Focus Keyword: Tax Reform Bill Nigeria The Presidency has responded to Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State over his controversial comments regarding President Bola Tinubu’s tax reform initiatives. The governor had labeled the policies as “anti-northern” and warned of potential retaliation from the northern region if they persist. Background of the Controversy During a Christmas visit by the Christian community at the Bauchi State Government House on December 25, 2024, Governor Mohammed openly criticized the tax reform bill. He claimed the reforms disproportionately favored a specific part of the country, allegedly neglecting the northern region’s interests. Mohammed’s strong warning that the North would “show its true colors” if the reforms continued sparked nationwide debate. Presidency’s Response President Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Mr. Sunday Dare, addressed the issue in a statement titled “RE: We’ll Show Tinubu Our True Colour.” Dare condemned the governor’s remarks, stating they do not reflect the collective view of Northern Nigeria or the collaborative spirit required to address the nation’s challenges. He urged the governor to retract his confrontational statements and engage constructively with the Federal Government. “The North, like other regions, seeks collaborative governance and constructive engagement to overcome shared challenges,” Dare noted. Federal Allocations and Accountability Dare highlighted that Bauchi State has received ₦144 billion in federal allocations under President Tinubu’s administration, a significant increase compared to previous years. Despite this, the state continues to face high poverty levels and developmental challenges. “Instead of issuing threats, the governor should focus on implementing poverty alleviation programs and ensuring the transparent use of federal funds,” Dare emphasized. Benefits of the Tax Reform Act The Presidency outlined the benefits of the Tax Reform Act, which aims to simplify Nigeria’s taxation system. This reform is expected to reduce the burden on small businesses in Bauchi and other states while increasing overall revenue for developmental projects. A Call for National Unity Mr. Dare reiterated that addressing Nigeria’s critical challenges—poverty, security, and economic growth—requires unity and collaboration across all regions. He urged public officials to avoid divisive statements and focus on national cohesion and shared progress. “The path forward lies in thoughtful engagement, collaboration, and prioritizing the collective good over regional or political interests,” he stated. Final Thoughts The Presidency’s message to Governor Mohammed underscores the need for constructive dialogue and effective governance in tackling Nigeria’s pressing challenges. Regional sentiments must give way to unity of purpose for the country’s prosperity. As Dare concluded, “This is the leadership Nigeria needs—building bridges, not barriers, and focusing on the collective good. Venezuela fines TikTok $10 million for failing to curb dangerous viral challenges that led to three teenage deaths and hundreds of poisonings. Venezuela’s Supreme Tribunal of Justice has fined TikTok $10 million, citing negligence in controlling viral challenges on its platform that resulted in the deaths of three teenagers and left over 200 people intoxicated. Judge Tania D’Amelio, representing the Supreme Court, announced the decision on December 30, 2024, emphasizing that the video-sharing platform failed to implement adequate measures to prevent the spread of harmful contenthttps://www.vanguardngr.com/2024/12/venezuela-fines-tiktok-10m-after-over-viral-challenge-deaths/. TikTok, owned by Chinese tech giant ByteDance, has been instructed to establish an office in Venezuela and must pay the fine within eight days to avoid further legal action. The funds will be used to create a TikTok Victims Fund aimed at compensating individuals—particularly children and adolescents—who have suffered psychological, emotional, or physical harm due to unsafe content. The app, known for its viral challenges involving dances, games, and creative content, has faced global criticism for allowing hazardous videos to circulate. According to Venezuelan authorities, the fatal challenges prompted adolescents to ingest dangerous chemicals, leading to tragic outcomes. While TikTok’s policies explicitly ban content promoting self-harm or suicide, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has criticized the platform for enabling “criminal challenges.” In November, Maduro warned of severe consequences if TikTok failed to remove harmful content. The Venezuelan government is now drafting laws to regulate social media platforms, which Maduro claims have been weaponized to incite hate and division. The President has also accused Elon Musk, owner of X (formerly Twitter), of launching coordinated attacks against Venezuela via social media. As TikTok faces increasing scrutiny in Venezuela, the case highlights the growing demand for accountability in the digital space, particularly concerning the safety of young users. Tinubu Hails NNPCL for Restarting Warri Refinery, Strengthening Nigeria’s Energy Sector President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has lauded the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) for successfully reopening the Warri Refining and Petrochemical Company (WRPC). This milestone is seen as a critical achievement for 2024, reinforcing Nigerians’ trust in the current administration’s commitment to energy reform. In a statement by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu expressed joy at the Warri Refinery’s renewed operations, following the recent reactivation of the Port Harcourt Refinery, which began processing 60,000 barrels per day (bpd) in November 2024. “With the Warri Refinery back in operation after years of dormancy, my administration reaffirms its dedication to increasing local refining capacity. This step marks significant progress in transforming Nigeria into a hub for downstream industrial activities across Africa,” the statement read. The president highlighted that this achievement builds upon the foundation laid by the preceding administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, which initiated the rehabilitation contracts for Nigeria’s four state-owned refineries. Local Refining at the Core of Nigeria’s Energy Strategy President Tinubu emphasized that the Warri Refinery, now operating at 60% of its 125,000 bpd capacity, represents a crucial element of his government’s comprehensive strategy to ensure energy efficiency and security for the nation. He commended NNPCL’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, and his team for their relentless efforts in restoring Nigeria’s standing as a leading oil-producing nation. “This is a significant moment for Nigeria. The restart of the Warri Refinery brings immense joy and strengthens the hope of Nigerians for a prosperous future. I am proud of NNPCL’s commitment to restoring all four refineries to optimal condition, as per my directive,” Tinubu remarked. Plans for Additional Refinery Restorations The president urged NNPCL to expedite the rehabilitation of the Kaduna Refinery and the second Port Harcourt Refinery, which has a capacity of 150,000 bpd. These efforts aim to consolidate Nigeria’s position as a key player in the global energy market. WRPC will prioritize the production and storage of essential petroleum products, including Straight Run Kerosene (SRK), Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), and heavy and light naphtha, ensuring a steady supply to meet domestic and international demands. The United States has unveiled a substantial $2.5 billion security assistance package for Ukraine, aiming to bolster Kyiv’s defenses amidst the ongoing Russian invasion. This announcement comes as President-elect Donald Trump’s impending inauguration raises uncertainties about the continuity of American support for Ukraine. The latest aid package, announced on Monday, is designed to expedite the delivery of critical military equipment. It comprises a $1.25 billion drawdown from existing U.S. defense stockpiles, enabling the rapid transfer of drones, HIMARS ammunition, optically guided missiles, anti-tank weapon systems, air-to-ground munitions, and spare parts directly to Ukrainian forces. Additionally, $1.22 billion will be allocated through the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative, allowing the procurement of military equipment from the defense industry and allied nations. President Joe Biden expressed his commitment to Ukraine, stating, “Today, I am proud to announce nearly $2.5 billion in security assistance for Ukraine, as the Ukrainian people continue to defend their independence and freedom from Russian aggression.” Secretary of State Antony Blinken emphasized the global effort, saying, “The United States and more than 50 nations stand united to ensure Ukraine has the capabilities it needs to defend itself against Russia’s aggression.” Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov welcomed the package, acknowledging the U.S. as a key ally. “The U.S. is providing invaluable assistance. Together, we will win!” he shared on social media. This announcement follows a $1 billion aid package earlier this month and underscores the Biden administration’s determination to maximize support for Ukraine before the transition of power. President-elect Trump has expressed skepticism about U.S. assistance to Ukraine, pledging to pursue a ceasefire within hours of taking office in January. Meanwhile, the situation on the ground remains dire. In efforts to address manpower shortages, Ukraine has implemented measures to reintegrate soldiers who left their posts. Reports indicate that 8,000 troops returned in November alone, but concerns persist as frontline desertions rise due to the loss of many motivated fighters. The package serves as a reminder of the urgent need for international solidarity as Ukraine continues its struggle for sovereignty against Russian aggression.
