The word confess in the verse above is translated from the Greek “Homologeo.” It’s a verb, which means to make declaration. But in the context of our opening verse, it means to acknowledge. If we acknowledge our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Let’s also read Romans 3:24-26; it talks about God’s righteousness and the forgiveness of sin: “Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness, for the remission of sins that are past…that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.” God is righteous, and in His righteousness, He puts away man’s sins and justifies him. Can you imagine that? It doesn’t say God justifies the one who confesses his sins and asks for forgiveness. He’s not so much after you getting forgiveness as He is after the real reason for forgiveness. Forgiveness is from the Greek word “Aphiemi” and it means freedom. The Father’s focus is freedom from sin. Already, you’re the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. You’re the expression of His righteousness. Acts 13:38-39 tells us something remarkable; it says, “Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man (Jesus) is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins. And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.” Justified means to declare not guilty, acquitted, free—freedom from sin. When we say freedom from sin, we’re not talking about freedom from the bondage of sin but freedom from sinning. Freedom from the bondage of sin refers to Satan’s dominion, which has been broken. But freedom from sin means the ability and possibility to live righteously and not to do wrong. Is that possible? Emphatically yes! It’s what Jesus came to do; otherwise, it means His purpose wasn’t accomplished. But thanks be unto God; He fulfilled His purpose. He was made sin so that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him (2 Corinthians 5:21). Now sin shall not have dominion over you (Romans 6:14). We’ll learn more in our next study. PRAYERDear Father, I thank you for the freedom from sin that I have through Jesus Christ. I acknowledge that through His sacrifice, I am justified, cleansed, and sin-free. I walk in righteousness and manifest your glory in all that I do, in Jesus’ Name. Amen. It makes me master over circumstances. I have dominion over the world’s deplorable systems. I have dominion over Satan. I am superior to sicknesses and diseases. I am superior to defeat and depravities that affect the natural man. I live above this world and its corrupting influences. Every day of my life, I walk in God’s perfect will for my life. I am conscious of my immortality in Christ Jesus. I dominate life’s situations and circumstances. I dominate in everything that has a name. I am more than a conqueror. I have overcome the world and its persecution, pains, delusion and wickedness. I have overcome the world and its hardship and greed! I am in Christ. I’m complete in Christ. I’m filled with all the fullness of God. The totality of divinity resides in me. I am God’s house, His living tabernacle. I am not an ordinary man; I am of the God kind! I am complete in Christ. Despite this progress, the 2024 budget, titled “Budget of Renewed Hope,” has been met with skepticism, particularly among young Nigerians facing ongoing economic challenges. The widespread “Japa” phenomenon—mass emigration of skilled professionals—continues to drain critical sectors like healthcare, ICT, engineering, and public administration. For instance, a major tertiary medical institution in Abuja recently lost its entire trauma unit laboratory team to brain drain, leaving a significant gap in service delivery. Looking ahead, the 2025 budget, aptly named “Budget of Restoration: Securing Peace, Rebuilding Prosperity,” aims to address these challenges. Its ability to restore hope, foster peace, and rebuild prosperity among Nigerians will be tested in the coming fiscal year. With a devaluation rate that has reduced purchasing power, experts warn that the N49.7 trillion budget presented by President Bola Tinubu may struggle to achieve the same impact as the N28.777 trillion budget of 2024. Struggles with Exchange Rates and Inflation The Central Bank of Nigeria’s (CBN) monetary policy reforms, aimed at stabilizing the currency, initially improved the Naira’s value but failed to sustain the gains. As of December 2023, the Naira traded at approximately N853 to $1. By December 2024, exchange rates surged to as high as N1,700 to $1, before settling at N1,536.93 to $1 on the CBN’s official platform. In addition to exchange rate volatility, inflation continues to rise. The 2024 inflation target was set at 21%, but the current rate stands at 34.6%. For 2025, President Tinubu aims to reduce inflation to 15%, though achieving this may prove difficult. Key Projections for the 2025 Budget President Tinubu’s 2025 budget, dubbed the “Budget of Restoration: Securing Peace, Rebuilding Prosperity,” is built on several economic assumptions: The proposed expenditure of N49.7 trillion includes allocations to defense (N4.91 trillion), infrastructure (N4.06 trillion), health (N2.48 trillion), and education (N3.52 trillion). Debt servicing alone will require N15.81 trillion, while other expenditures account for N17.12 trillion. Challenges and Economic Achievements Despite challenges, President Tinubu highlighted some economic improvements during the 2024 budget presentation. Foreign reserves rose to $42 billion, and Nigeria’s economy grew by 3.46% in Q3 2024, up from 2.54% in Q3 2023. Additionally, the trade surplus hit N5.8 trillion, reflecting increased export activity. However, public sentiment remains cautious. The high “Japa” syndrome, where professionals emigrate due to economic hardship, underscores the challenges many Nigerians face. Critical sectors, such as healthcare and ICT, continue to experience significant brain drain. Will the 2025 Budget Deliver? The 2025 budget aims to restore peace and rebuild prosperity, but achieving these goals hinges on addressing macroeconomic issues like inflation and exchange rates. Without bold and effective reforms, the government risks falling short of its ambitious targets. However, his administration faced challenges, including the Iran hostage crisis and domestic economic difficulties. Born on October 1, 1924, in Plains, Georgia, James Earl Carter Jr. grew up as the son of a farmer and a nurse. After graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy, he joined the Navy and became part of the esteemed nuclear submarine fleet. In 1953, he left his military career to manage his family’s farm after his father’s death, marking the beginning of his journey into politics. Carter’s influence extended far beyond his presidency. Together with his wife Rosalynn, who passed away in November 2023, he co-founded the Carter Center, a global organization dedicated to humanitarian aid and advancing democracy.
