Why Nigeria’s National Grid Faces Continuous Collapse

Discover why Nigeria’s national grid continues to collapse. Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, cites insecurity and delayed repairs of the Shiroro-Kaduna-Mando transmission line as key reasons. The Nigerian Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has explained why the country’s national electricity grid remains vulnerable to frequent collapses. During the 2025 budget defense session with the Senate Joint Committee on Power, held on Monday, the Minister revealed that insecurity in the northern region has hindered the repair of a vital transmission line. Insecurity Hampers Grid Stability According to Adelabu, the Shiroro-Kaduna-Mando transmission line, a critical component of Nigeria’s power infrastructure, has been out of service since October 2024 due to vandalism. This incident, he stated, has dealt a severe blow to the country’s power sector and is a significant contributor to the grid’s instability. “The Shiroro-Kaduna-Mando line is one of two major transmission lines delivering electricity to northern Nigeria,” the Minister explained. “While the second line, the Ugwuaji-Makurdi transmission line, has been successfully repaired, the Shiroro line remains out of operation due to persistent security challenges in the region.” The Grid’s Fragility Explained Adelabu highlighted that the reliance on a single functioning transmission line in the north places undue strain on the national grid, making it highly fragile and prone to failure. “This dependency creates a significant risk. Whenever a collapse occurs, we can only focus on swift restoration efforts to minimize the impact,” he added. The Way Forward The Minister’s remarks underline the urgent need for improved security measures and investments in power infrastructure to stabilize Nigeria’s electricity grid. Without addressing these issues, frequent grid collapses will likely persist, hampering economic growth and daily life for millions of Nigerians. According to Professor Usman Tar, Borno State’s Commissioner for Information, initial investigations reveal that approximately 40 farmers were killed, while others are still missing. I assure the citizens of Borno that this attack will be thoroughly investigated, and we will track down the perpetrators of this heinous act.” Cause of Vulnerability Reports suggest that the farmers strayed beyond the security corridors designated by the military for safe farming activities. These areas are often prone to nocturnal terrorist attacks and are still contaminated with landmines. Governor Zulum called on residents to adhere to the safety guidelines, emphasizing: “The government has demarcated areas for safe farming to ensure security. Citizens must avoid unsafe zones to allow the military to concentrate on clearing these areas of terrorist threats.” Nasarawa Attack: 10 Killed in Night Raid In another deadly incident, terrorists attacked Tatara village in the Panda development area of Nasarawa State, killing at least 10 people. Bridging Nigeria’s 21 Million Housing Deficit: N5 Trillion Needed Annually for 2.7 Million Units

Nigeria is currently facing a significant housing crisis, with a staggering 21 million-unit deficit. This challenge looms as the nation’s population, now at 220 million, continues to grow at an annual rate of 2.5%. Moreover, urbanization is accelerating, with the United Nations predicting that 60% of Nigerians will live in cities by 2030 unless urgent action is taken. The Scale of the Housing Gap Despite the massive shortfall, numerous luxury housing units remain unoccupied across the country, particularly in estates developed by private firms. The high cost of these properties is a major deterrent. Additionally, there are countless abandoned housing projects by both the government and private developers. To close the 21 million-unit housing gap, experts estimate that Nigeria needs to invest over ₦5 trillion annually and construct 2.7 million housing units each year for the next decade. Insights from Real Estate Experts Speaking at the Africa International Housing Show in Abuja, stakeholders revealed that the housing deficit might be closer to 20 million units. However, bridging this gap still requires constructing 550,000 units annually, demanding an estimated ₦5.5 trillion investment per year. This figure represents a significant opportunity for investors in Nigeria’s real estate market. Nuel Osilama, Vice President of the Real Estate Developers’ Association of Nigeria (REDAN), emphasized the importance of a collective effort: Challenges Contributing to the Housing Crisis Solutions to Revitalize Housing Projects Government Efforts and Future Plans The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has initiated a Demand-Driven Housing Strategy to prevent unsold and abandoned projects. Recently, the government launched an online housing portal, which has already recorded over 28,000 applications. Minister Arc. Ahmed Dangiwa highlighted plans to deliver 50,000 housing units, though this figure is far below the annual requirement of 550,000 units. The ministry is also working to establish a National Social Housing Fund (NSHF) to ensure vulnerable groups have access to decent accommodation. Global Recommendations and Real Estate Investment Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo, a seasoned real estate investor, stressed the importance of adopting the Sustainable Development Goal 11, which focuses on affordable and sustainable housing for all by 2030. He noted that achieving this goal in Nigeria would require constructing 700,000 units annually for 20 years, with an estimated investment of ₦59 trillion. Security Concerns in Housing Development Insecurity poses a significant challenge in some states. Developers in regions like Imo State report kidnappings and other threats, discouraging investors and buyers. Improved rural security and infrastructure, such as better roads, can encourage development outside urban centers. Conclusion Nigeria’s housing crisis is a pressing issue that demands coordinated efforts from all stakeholders. By investing in affordable housing, promoting local manufacturing, and leveraging innovative financing solutions, the country can close its housing gap and provide millions with safe, decent homes. The time to act is now. READ ALSO: Follow the LMSINT MEDIA channel on WhatsApp: Join Our WhatsApp Group Hear: Chat on WhatsApp Join our Telegram Chanel.

Rhapsody Of Realities January 14th 2025, BE FAITHFUL WITH HIS INVESTMENT

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome DSc DSc DD Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain… (John 15:16). When God gives you an opportunity of service of any kind and at whatever capacity, it’s essential that you recognize and use it. God is not a wasteful investor. He doesn’t invest in a place or person that yields no results. Think about it; if you were an investor, would you continue pouring resources into a project that shows no progress? Of course not! Now, if man, in his limited human wisdom, would be cautious with his investments, how much more would God? Each one of us is an investment of God. He expects us to bear fruits with the resources, gifts, talents, blessings and opportunities He’s entrusted to us. I love the way Paul puts it in 1 Corinthians 4:1; he calls us stewards, and in verse 2 he says, “Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.” So, are you a faithful steward of God’s investment? In John 15:2, the Lord Jesus said, “Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.” He cuts off the supply to the unfruitful branch; no more testimonies because the supply isn’t there anymore. God won’t waste His investment. So, let Him trust you. He said in the 16th verse, “…I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain…” (John 15:16). What a privilege; what a blessing! The Lord Jesus Himself has chosen and ordained us to be fruitful. He ordained you to bring forth lasting fruits. Hallelujah! This is your mission. You’re a missionary to your world, chosen by God for this purpose. As long as you remain faithful, God will continue to invest in you and trust you with more. Paul said, “And I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who hath enabled me, for that he counted me faithful, putting me into the ministry” (1 Timothy 1:12). The Lord will enable you, promote you, and continue to pour His resources into your life as you bear fruits for His Kingdom. PRAYERDear Father, I thank you for choosing and ordaining me to bear fruit for your Kingdom. I acknowledge the great investment you have made in my life. By your Spirit, I remain connected to the vine, producing results in every area of my life. I am forever fruitful, productive, profitable and committed to using every opportunity for your glory, winning souls and sponsoring the Gospel, in Jesus mighty Name. Amen. Osinbajo Remains Active in Politics and Loyal to APC, Says Former Spokesman Akande

Laolu Akande, former spokesman for Yemi Osinbajo, confirms the ex-vice president remains loyal to the APC and active in politics, despite rumors of retirement. Laolu Akande, the former spokesman for ex-Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, has reaffirmed that his principal remains actively involved in politics and is still a dedicated member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). During a press briefing in Lagos, Akande addressed speculations about Osinbajo’s possible retirement from politics. He clarified that the former vice president has neither stepped away from the APC nor abandoned his political career. “There’s no basis to assume he has left the APC or politics,” Akande stated. “As far as I know, he is still a loyal member of the party. If invited to an APC caucus meeting, he will undoubtedly attend.” Why the Rumors? Osinbajo’s noticeable absence from APC gatherings has sparked rumors of his retreat from active politics, especially following his loss to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during the party’s 2022 presidential primaries. Some observers have attributed his reduced visibility in political activities to the aftermath of the primaries. Others believe his focus on his new international role as the Global Advisor for the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP) is taking precedence. Akande’s Response to Speculations Akande, who served as Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity during Osinbajo’s tenure, dismissed the notion that political or personal grievances are behind his principal’s political activities. “He (Osinbajo) never told me he has left politics. These rumors are purely assumptions driven by his current international engagements,” Akande said. The former spokesman reassured Nigerians that Osinbajo remains committed to serving the APC and contributing to the nation’s development whenever called upon. LA Fire Evacuees Won’t Return Home Until Thursday Amid Ongoing Fire Emergency

Tens of thousands of Los Angeles residents evacuated due to wildfires must wait until at least Thursday to return home as strong winds continue to fuel the flames, leaving destruction and uncertainty in their wake. Evacuees in Los Angeles Face Delays Returning Home as Wildfires Rage On The devastating wildfires in Los Angeles continue to wreak havoc, leaving tens of thousands of residents displaced with no immediate hope of returning to their homes. Officials confirmed on Sunday that evacuees must wait until at least Thursday due to the ongoing fire threats and high winds predicted for the week. The Scale of the Disaster With fires such as the Palisades Fire and Eaton Fire spreading rapidly, entire neighborhoods have been reduced to ashes. Tragically, 24 lives have already been lost, and the death toll may rise as rescue teams, including cadaver dogs, comb through the rubble of destroyed properties. Nearly 100,000 residents remain under mandatory evacuation orders, down from 180,000 last week. Why Can’t Residents Return? Los Angeles County Fire Chief Anthony Marrone explained the dire situation: Marrone emphasized, “It’s not safe to return yet. First thing Thursday, we’ll begin discussions about repopulation.” Heartbreaking Stories from Evacuees For many, the wait is agonizing. Evacuees have spent hours in long queues at checkpoints, hoping for a brief, escorted visit to their homes. Janelle, one of the evacuees, shared her heartbreak:“I know my house is gone. I’ve seen the photos and videos, but I need closure. I want to see it with my own eyes.” Similarly, Henry Levinson, a resident of Pacific Palisades, said he desperately wanted to retrieve his late father’s and grandmother’s ashes left behind during the hasty evacuation. Officials Respond to Rising Frustrations While understanding the anguish of evacuees, officials prioritize public safety. Los Angeles City Councilor Traci Park acknowledged the emotional toll but reiterated, “Safety must come first.” To address evacuees’ concerns, authorities are developing an online system to help residents check the status of their homes remotely. Destruction Beyond Words The fires have left parts of Los Angeles looking like a war zone. Streets are lined with blackened ruins, and essential infrastructure is destroyed. Sheriff Robert Luna warned residents of the dangers, saying, “It looks like a bomb hit these areas. We empathize with the displaced, but safety is paramount.” What’s Next? As firefighters work tirelessly to combat the flames, residents and officials hope the winds will die down after Wednesday, allowing for progress in the recovery efforts. Until then, evacuees must hold on to hope and patience, knowing that safety remains the priority. Key Takeaways: Stay tuned for further updates on the LA wildfire situation. Unruly Passenger Forces Ibom Air Flight Cancellation, Affecting 89 Passengers

An Ibom Air flight scheduled to depart Uyo for Abuja on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at 5:30 PM was canceled due to the disruptive behavior of a single passenger. The incident caused significant inconvenience to 89 passengers on board, as well as financial and operational losses for the airline. Incident Details According to the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), the disruption began when the passenger realized her checked luggage was not among those loaded onto the aircraft. This was despite prior notice during check-in that, due to weight restrictions, some luggage might arrive on a later flight. Passengers with luggage over 20kg had signed indemnity forms agreeing to this arrangement. The passenger refused to comply, stepping off the aircraft and insisting that her bags be loaded immediately. She further escalated the situation by blocking the aisle when she was allowed back on board to retrieve her handbag. Consequences of the Disruption Despite interventions by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) security personnel, airline staff, and the pilot, the passenger remained unyielding. The delay pushed the flight into the closure of Uyo’s sunset-only airspace, leading to the eventual cancellation of the flight. Passengers, including an infant and a chef traveling for a high-profile event, were left stranded. The incident not only wasted their time and money but also created a scheduling nightmare for the airline. Airline Response Ibom Air incurred significant costs, including: The NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mr. Michael Achimugu, described the incident as avoidable and commended the swift action of security and airline staff for preventing the situation from escalating further. Impact on Aviation Industry This incident highlights the thin profit margins of the aviation industry and the ripple effects caused by passenger disruptions. Airlines face operational and financial burdens in such cases, making it critical for passengers to comply with regulations and exercise patience during travel. Keywords for Optimization: Conclusion This incident underscores the importance of adhering to airline protocols and maintaining decorum during air travel. Ibom Air’s quick response ensured passenger safety and mitigated further consequences, but the disruption serves as a reminder of the need for stricter enforcement of aviation rules. Police Uncover ‘Constructive Kidnapping’ Scheme, Rescue 16 Ladies in Lagos

Lagos Police uncover a new kidnapping trend, ‘Constructive Kidnapping,’ targeting women through social media. Learn how 16 victims were rescued and how to stay safe. Lagos Police Expose New Kidnapping Trend Targeting Ladies Online The Lagos State Police Command has uncovered a sophisticated kidnapping scheme known as ‘Constructive Kidnapping.’ This alarming trend involves kidnappers posing as online friends or romantic partners to lure unsuspecting ladies into traps. The command revealed that this disturbing tactic has already ensnared 16 women across Lagos State, all of whom have been successfully rescued. The revelation was made by the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, CP Olawale Ishola, during a press briefing highlighting the command’s breakthroughs between September 2024 and January 2025. How the Scheme Works The kidnappers utilize social media platforms to identify and tag their victims as friends. By establishing a false sense of trust and connection, they lower their victims’ defenses. CP Ishola described the scheme as “constructive” because the victims unknowingly walk into the trap, believing they are traveling for legitimate purposes. Police Intervention and Rescue Efforts The Commissioner of Police explained that the swift actions of his command resulted in the rescue of 16 victims from the clutches of these kidnappers. He emphasized that the police remain vigilant and one step ahead of the criminals. He warned members of the public, particularly young women, to exercise caution when engaging with strangers online. “If you see something, say something,” he advised. A Case of Self-Staged Kidnapping In a separate incident, a 15-year-old girl was rescued after allegedly conspiring with her boyfriend to stage her kidnapping and demand ransom from her parents. The girl’s mother reported her missing on January 8, 2025, after she left home for an unknown destination. The following day, the family received a phone call demanding ransom for the girl’s release. Police investigations traced the girl to her boyfriend’s residence, where she was found along with a baby. Both the girl and her boyfriend were apprehended, and the police confirmed that the family had been sending money to the account provided by the alleged kidnappers. Public Awareness and Safety Recommendations The Lagos State Police Command has called on citizens to remain cautious and vigilant when interacting with strangers, especially online acquaintances. The public is urged to report suspicious activities immediately to prevent falling victim to such schemes.
