EFCC Condemns Social Media Support for Officer’s Alleged Killer

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has expressed strong disapproval of the growing support on social media for the alleged killer of Assistant Superintendent of the EFCC, ASEII Aminu Sahabi Salisu. Salisu tragically lost his life on January 17, 2025, while executing his official duty in Anambra State to apprehend suspected internet fraudsters. EFCC Responds to the Incident In a statement released on Sunday, the EFCC mourned the death of Salisu and criticized the false narratives being circulated online regarding the incident. The statement, signed by Dele Oyewale, Head of Media and Publicity, emphasized the injustice of defending the suspect, Joshua Chukwubueze Ikechukwu, who reportedly shot Salisu and injured another officer during the operation. The Commission condemned those spreading these narratives and called for respect toward Salisu’s family and the integrity of the nation. Incident Overview The incident occurred in Awka, Anambra State, during an EFCC operation to apprehend suspected internet fraudsters. While the team successfully detained 37 suspects without incident, Ikechukwu resisted arrest by refusing to open his door and later shooting at the officers. Salisu was fatally wounded, and another officer sustained injuries during the attack. Preliminary investigations revealed that Ikechukwu was involved in coding and questionable online medical supply operations. EFCC’s Stand Against False Narratives The EFCC denounced the online glorification of Ikechukwu, calling it “irresponsible, inhuman, and outrageous.” The agency reiterated that Salisu’s death was a result of a criminal act, which should not be rationalized or celebrated. “The activities of internet fraudsters have escalated into serious threats to public safety and security,” the EFCC said. Intelligence reports have linked these criminals to activities like armed violence, kidnapping, ritual killings, and other hazardous crimes. Justice and Future Measures Ikechukwu is currently in police custody and will face prosecution for his actions. The EFCC reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring justice and warned that future attacks on its officers would be met with the full force of the law. Despite this tragic loss, the Commission remains steadfast in its fight against corruption and internet fraud. Acknowledgment of Support The EFCC expressed gratitude to sister agencies, well-meaning individuals, and the general public for their unwavering support during this challenging period. “We mourn the loss of a gallant officer who paid the ultimate price in service to the nation. The EFCC remains committed to its mandate and will not be deterred by such acts of violence,” the statement concluded. Conclusion This tragic incident underscores the dangers faced by anti-corruption agencies in Nigeria. The EFCC remains determined to protect the public from internet fraud and related crimes, urging citizens to support their efforts rather than propagating harmful narratives. Northern Minorities Disassociate from Northern Agenda — Ibrahim Bunu

Discover why Northern minorities disassociate from the “Northern Agenda” and stand with President Bola Tinubu’s inclusive governance. Insights from Ibrahim Bunu, convener of NOMAL. NOMAL Advocates Balanced Leadership in Nigeria The Northern Minority Alliance for Balanced Leadership (NOMAL) recently convened for a three-day retreat in Jos, Plateau State. During the event, the group’s convener, Ibrahim Bunu, spoke with Isaac Shobayo about NOMAL’s stance on key national issues, including tax reform, political restructuring, and the upcoming 2027 elections. Northern Minorities Reject Northern Agenda Bunu emphasized that Northern minorities do not align with the so-called “Northern Agenda,” which he believes fails to represent their interests. He stated, “We, the minorities in the North, stand firmly with a leader committed to balanced governance, inclusivity, and national unity.” He criticized certain groups claiming to represent Northern interests, asserting that their motives are driven by personal gains rather than collective progress. Bunu praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for its proactive policies, especially regarding insurgency management and restoring relative peace in Northern regions. Tax Reform and Regional Leadership When asked about the North’s position on the Federal Government’s Tax Reform Bills, Bunu clarified that dissenting voices, including those of Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, do not represent Northern minorities. “The governor of Bauchi State is speaking for himself, not for us. We have not mandated him to represent Northern minorities.” Bunu reiterated NOMAL’s commitment to supporting President Tinubu’s administration, dismissing claims that certain governors or political groups speak for the entire North. Regrouping Political Forces: A Threat to 2027? Addressing concerns about political regrouping in preparation for the 2027 elections, Bunu expressed confidence in Tinubu’s growing popularity in the North. “The 2027 election will be a one-way traffic. Those plotting alliances are wasting their energy. Nigerians now understand their political gimmicks.” Bunu highlighted that the Northern minorities are united in their support for policies fostering equity, inclusivity, and development. Appointments and Regional Representation On allegations of lopsided appointments favoring the South, Bunu countered that the North holds key positions in the current administration. “Sensitive roles such as the National Security Adviser and Chief of Defence Staff are held by Northerners. President Tinubu’s leadership reflects fairness and inclusivity.” Bunu further noted that this administration has prioritized economic recovery, infrastructure development, and addressing longstanding issues like refinery operations. Changing Allegiances in the North Reflecting on the 2023 elections, Bunu acknowledged that Northern minorities initially supported Labour Party candidate Peter Obi due to concerns over a Muslim-Muslim ticket. However, he explained the shift in allegiance: “President Tinubu has demonstrated that religion is not a factor in his governance. Many who supported Obi have now rallied behind Tinubu.” Bunu also urged Mr. Obi to reconsider his 2027 presidential ambitions and work collaboratively with the current administration. The Way Forward Bunu concluded by urging Nigerians to exercise patience as the Tinubu administration continues its reforms. He emphasized the need for unity and constructive dialogue over divisive politics, encouraging all stakeholders to focus on nation-building. Vandals Cripple Nigeria’s Power Supply: 18 Towers Destroyed in Five Days

In a troubling development, vandals have destroyed and stolen components from no fewer than 18 electricity towers in just five days, crippling power supply to multiple franchise areas across Rivers, Abia, and Kano States. The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) disclosed this in a statement signed by the General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, in Abuja. Power Infrastructure Under Siege The incidents, which occurred between January 9 and 14, 2025, were discovered during routine inspections and have significantly disrupted TCN’s operations. The damage also hinders the government’s grid expansion plans, designed to deliver uninterrupted electricity to Nigerians. TCN’s Findings Across States Abuja Transmission Cables Targeted On January 17, 2025, TCN engineers uncovered the vandalism of 132kV underground transmission cables near Millennium Park in Abuja. The incident caused widespread power outages, affecting key locations, including the presidential villa and the office of the Minister of Power. TCN’s Response to Rising Vandalism Ndidi Mbah condemned the surge in vandalism, calling it a direct sabotage of the nation’s power infrastructure. She revealed that TCN has intensified security measures, including enhanced patrols, increased vigilance, and collaborations with security operatives. Despite these efforts, she emphasized the need for community involvement to protect these critical installations. “We appeal to all Nigerians, particularly those in communities hosting our infrastructure, to join us in safeguarding these collective assets essential for socioeconomic development,” Mbah stated. Financial and Operational Strain The financial burden of repairing vandalized installations is immense, placing additional strain on TCN’s grid expansion efforts. This has prompted the power ministry to propose an N8 billion allocation in the 2025 budget for a nationwide sensitization campaign aimed at curbing vandalism and promoting timely electricity bill payments. A Call for Collective Action TCN has issued a clarion call for all stakeholders to unite in ending the menace of power infrastructure vandalism. Protecting the national grid is not just the responsibility of the government but a shared duty crucial for Nigeria’s development. Conclusion The continued vandalism of power infrastructure threatens the stability of Nigeria’s electricity supply and the broader socioeconomic development of the nation. Strengthened security measures, community collaboration, and public sensitization are vital to overcoming this challenge and ensuring a reliable power supply for all. In recent years, the buzz around sustainable fashion has grown louder—and for good reason. Whether you’re a dedicated fashionista or someone who just wants a reliable pair of jeans, the way we consume clothing has a bigger impact than we often realize. But what exactly is sustainable fashion, and why does it matter? Let’s break it down in simple terms. What Is Sustainable Fashion? Sustainable fashion is about creating clothes, accessories, and shoes in ways that minimize harm to people and the planet. It focuses on ethical practices like fair wages, safe working conditions, and eco-friendly materials. Instead of the wasteful “fast fashion” model that churns out cheap, trendy clothes only to be discarded after a few wears, sustainable fashion aims for durability, quality, and responsible production. Think of it this way: sustainable fashion is the slow-cooked meal to fast fashion’s drive-thru. It may take a little more effort upfront, but the payoff—for the planet and your wardrobe—is worth it. Why Does Sustainable Fashion Matter? Here’s the deal: the fashion industry is one of the biggest polluters in the world. Here’s how it impacts our environment and society: How to Embrace Sustainable Fashion You don’t have to overhaul your entire wardrobe overnight. Small changes can add up: The Bigger Picture Sustainable fashion is more than a trend; it’s a movement toward a healthier planet and fairer treatment of people. It’s about slowing down and considering the story behind what we wear. The next time you’re tempted by a $5 t-shirt, ask yourself: What’s the real cost? Making sustainable fashion choices isn’t always easy, but it’s a step toward a better future—for everyone. And the best part? You don’t have to sacrifice style for sustainability. By aligning your wardrobe choices with sustainable practices, you’re not just making a fashion statement—you’re making a difference. So, what’s your next step toward a greener closet? How to Protect Your Privacy in the Digital World

Learn how to protect your privacy in the digital world with these easy and practical tips. Stay safe online with strong passwords, 2FA, VPNs, and more. In today’s hyper-connected world, our lives are increasingly lived online—shopping, socializing, banking, working, and even learning. While this convenience is fantastic, it also comes with a big caveat: our privacy is more vulnerable than ever. Don’t worry, though. You don’t have to be a tech wizard to safeguard your personal information. Let’s explore some simple and actionable steps you can take to protect your privacy in the digital world. Why Privacy Matters More Than Ever Imagine your personal data—emails, passwords, browsing history—falling into the wrong hands. Hackers, advertisers, and even unethical companies often target this data for profit. Protecting your privacy is about more than safeguarding your bank account; it’s about maintaining control over your personal life. 1. Strengthen Your Passwords Weak passwords are like leaving your front door wide open. Use complex, unique passwords for each account. 2. Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) Think of 2FA as adding a second lock to your door. Even if someone steals your password, they’ll need a second piece of information—like a code sent to your phone—to access your account. How to Set It Up: 3. Be Cautious on Public Wi-Fi Public Wi-Fi networks are convenient but notoriously insecure. Hackers can intercept your data on these networks. 4. Manage Your Social Media Settings Social media platforms often share more about you than you realize. 5. Install Antivirus and Anti-Malware Software Malware can steal your data without you knowing. Protect yourself with reliable security software. 6. Watch Out for Phishing Scams Phishing is when scammers trick you into giving away personal information through fake emails or websites. 7. Audit App Permissions Many apps collect unnecessary data from your devices. 8. Clear Your Digital Footprint Over time, websites and apps accumulate a lot of your data. 9. Educate Yourself The digital landscape is constantly evolving, and so are privacy threats. Wrapping Up: Take Control of Your Privacy Protecting your digital privacy may feel overwhelming, but small, consistent steps can make a big difference. Start by tackling one tip at a time—like enabling 2FA or using a VPN. Remember, the goal isn’t to eliminate all risks but to make it significantly harder for anyone to compromise your data. Your online world is yours to control. Stay informed, stay secure, and stay private! Rhapsody of Realities January 19th 2025,UNRUFFLED BY CHALLENGESS

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome DSc DSc DD Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us (Romans 8:35-37). What we just read should help you further understand why the Bible admonishes us to rejoice evermore (1 Thessalonians 5:16) and be anxious for nothing (Philippians 4:6). Nothing is to your disadvantage; we win in the midst of adversities. Those who don’t know this spend their time writing down all the problems they want God to fix for them. They’re so consumed by their troubles that they forget the simple yet profound instruction God has given us in His Word. He said in 1 Thessalonians 5:16, “Be happy [in your faith] and rejoice and be glad-hearted continually (always)” (AMPC). Practice this. Make every day a day of joy. He didn’t say rejoice only when things are perfect. No; He said, “Rejoice evermore.” There’re always things trying to steal your joy: bad news, disappointments or challenges that seem overwhelming. But you must refuse to be troubled or overwhelmed; do what the Word says: cast your cares upon the Lord for He cares for you (1 Peter 5:7). He didn’t ask you to carry your burdens or be anxious about them. Rather, He says, “Be anxious for nothing: but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God”* (Philippians 4:6 NKJV). It’s easy to think, “l won’t worry about the little things, but there’re some serious issues I must be anxious about.” No! The Word says to refuse anxiety about anything. When the situation seems most serious, that’s when you should laugh. Troubles may come, but they don’t have to trouble you. Your responsibility is to live in the Word. Meditate on it day and night as the Scripture enjoins (Joshua 1:8). The Word of God builds your spirit and gives you purpose, direction, encouragement and enlightenment. It strengthens your spirit and shapes your personality to one of confidence, peace and joy in the midst of adversities. Glory to God! Moment of Meditation: *PRAYER* Dear Father, I thank you for your Word that builds me up and strengthens my spirit. I refuse to be anxious about anything because in Christ I have victory over adversities, and I triumph always. Your peace garrisons my heart and mind, and I rejoice evermore, for the joy of the Lord is my strength. Hallelujah! Daily Life of a Roman Civilian in the Early Roman Empire: A Glimpse into the Past

Imagine waking up in the bustling streets of ancient Rome during the early Roman Empire. The scent of fresh bread wafts through the air, vendors shout to sell their goods, and the hum of chatter fills the atmosphere. Life for a Roman civilian was both routine and vibrant, steeped in tradition and flavored with the empire’s expansive reach. Let’s walk through a day in the life of an average Roman civilian, unveiling their routines, culture, and survival in one of history’s most fascinating civilizations. Morning Rituals: A Simple Start to the Day For many Roman civilians, mornings began at sunrise. The wealthy, living in spacious domus (houses), enjoyed more comforts than the average plebeian who resided in cramped apartment blocks known as insulae. However, both classes shared a love for simplicity when it came to breakfast. Breakfast—or ientaculum—usually consisted of bread dipped in wine, perhaps with cheese, olives, or honey if one could afford it. The elite might indulge in eggs or fruit, but extravagance at this hour was rare. After breakfast, civilians prepared for their work or daily activities. Wealthier Romans donned elegant tunics and, for formal occasions, wrapped themselves in togas—a symbol of Roman citizenship. Meanwhile, laborers and slaves dressed in simple, functional garments, suited for their tasks. A Hustling and Bustling Morning in the Forum The Forum, the heart of Roman public life, came alive by mid-morning. Here, merchants displayed exotic goods from across the empire—spices from India, silks from China, and Egyptian papyrus. Artisans showcased their craft, from pottery to jewelry, while politicians debated laws and policies on grand platforms. Many civilians visited the Forum not only to conduct business but also to socialize and hear the latest gossip. Public notices, plastered on walls or announced by heralds, kept everyone informed about government decrees, gladiatorial games, or even personal announcements like marriages. Lunch and Leisure: Taking a Break Around midday, Romans paused for prandium (lunch). This meal was typically light, consisting of bread, cold meats, vegetables, and fruits. For the wealthy, lunch might include leftovers from lavish feasts, but for most, simplicity reigned. Afternoons often brought a mix of work and leisure. Artisans returned to their workshops, farmers toiled in their fields, and slaves performed household tasks. For the more privileged, leisure might involve reading scrolls of Greek or Latin literature, strolling through gardens, or visiting the thermae (public baths). The Thermae: Socializing in Style Public baths were more than a place to cleanse oneself—they were hubs of social interaction. Men and women (at separate times or in separate areas) could relax in heated pools, exercise in gymnasiums, or discuss politics in steam rooms. Even the working class found ways to afford visits to the baths, which were subsidized or free in many areas. This practice reinforced a sense of shared community across different social classes, though the wealthier enjoyed more private bathing facilities. Evening Feasts and Family Time Dinner—cena—was the main meal of the day and a more elaborate affair. Wealthy households indulged in multi-course meals featuring dishes like roasted meats, fresh seafood, and exotic spices. Accompanied by entertainment such as poetry recitals or performances, these meals showcased Roman culinary sophistication and social culture. For ordinary civilians, dinner was simpler but still satisfying. A hearty stew of lentils, beans, or barley often graced the table, sometimes accompanied by bread, vegetables, and wine. Evenings were family-focused, with storytelling, games, or simply sharing the day’s experiences. Nighttime in the Eternal City As night fell, oil lamps illuminated homes and streets, casting a warm glow over the city. In wealthier neighborhoods, security and order prevailed. However, in the insulae districts, overcrowding and fire hazards made nighttime less secure. Despite these challenges, Romans found ways to celebrate life—whether through small gatherings, music, or observing religious practices. Religious Devotion and Superstition Religion permeated every aspect of Roman life. Civilian families maintained household shrines to honor Lares and Penates (spirits of the home), and public ceremonies dedicated to gods like Jupiter, Venus, and Mars were common. Superstitions also influenced daily decisions, from the interpretation of omens to the observance of auspicious days. Conclusion: A Tapestry of Everyday Life Life for a Roman civilian during the early Empire was a delicate balance between routine and grandeur, survival and indulgence. Whether bustling in the Forum, relaxing in the baths, or dining with loved ones, Romans embraced their culture with vigor. This vivid blend of practicality, tradition, and leisure is what made daily life in ancient Rome so extraordinary and relatable, even centuries later. Social media has become an integral part of our lives. From staying connected with friends and family to consuming the latest news and trends, social platforms like Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, and Facebook are always just a tap away. But with constant scrolling, posting, and comparing, it’s easy to hit a breaking point. That’s where social media burnout comes into play. If you’ve ever felt drained, overwhelmed, or even anxious after spending time online, you’re not alone. Let’s dive into what social media burnout is, why it happens, and—most importantly—how you can prevent it. What Is Social Media Burnout? Social media burnout is a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion caused by excessive engagement with social media. Why Does Social Media Burnout Happen? How to Prevent Social Media Burnout The good news is that social media burnout isn’t inevitable. By implementing intentional habits and setting boundaries, you can enjoy the benefits of social media without feeling overwhelmed. 1. Set Boundaries on Usage Limiting your time on social media is a simple yet effective way to reduce burnout. 2. Prioritize Quality Over Quantity Instead of obsessing over likes or follower counts, focus on creating or consuming meaningful content that genuinely resonates with you. 3. Turn Off Notifications Constant notifications can make you feel tethered to your device. Disable non-essential alerts so you can engage with social media on your terms. 4. Engage Mindfully Be intentional about your interactions on social media. Instead of mindlessly scrolling, set specific goals, like connecting with friends or learning something new. 5. Take Digital Detoxes Stepping away from social media for a few days (or even weeks) can work wonders for your mental health. Use the time to focus on offline hobbies, relationships, or self-care. 6.
