Nigeria’s Super Eagles recorded a crucial 3–2 victory over Tunisia in their AFCON group-stage encounter, and head coach Eric Chelle has explained the key factors behind the impressive win.

The Nigerian side delivered a strong performance that saw them outplay a disciplined Tunisian team, scoring three important goals to secure maximum points from the clash. Goals from Victor Osimhen, Wilfred Ndidi, and Ademola Lookman proved decisive as the Super Eagles edged past their North African opponents.

Throughout the encounter, Nigeria showed confidence on the ball and maintained control for large portions of the game. According to Chelle, his team’s ability to dominate possession and convert chances made the difference against a side that had been defensively solid in recent matches.

The result places Nigeria at the top of Group C with six points from two matches. Tunisia currently sit second on the group standings, while Tanzania and Uganda occupy the third and fourth positions respectively.

Chelle Praises Team Performance

Speaking after the match, the Super Eagles coach expressed satisfaction with his players’ overall display. He highlighted their composure, ball retention, and attacking efficiency as crucial elements that led to the victory.

Chelle noted that Tunisia had previously maintained a strong defensive record, particularly during their World Cup qualification campaign. However, Nigeria managed to break through that defense three times, which he described as a major achievement.

“Tunisia did not concede a single goal during the World Cup qualifiers,” Chelle said during his post-match interview with RFI.
“Scoring three goals against such a team shows the quality of our performance. For me, it was a very good game. We controlled possession well for about 70 minutes.”

The coach emphasized that maintaining control of the ball allowed Nigeria to dictate the tempo of the match and limit Tunisia’s attacking threat.

What’s Next for the Super Eagles?

Following the win, Nigeria will now turn their attention to their next AFCON fixture, where they are scheduled to face Uganda in the coming days. With six points already secured, the Super Eagles will be looking to maintain momentum and further strengthen their position in the group.
