The Senate Minority Leader, Abba Moro, who represents Benue South Senatorial District, has stated that former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, could stand a real chance of clinching the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) presidential ticket in 2027 if he decides to return to the party.
Speaking during an interview on Politics Today, a popular programme aired on Channels Television, Moro stressed that politics remains unpredictable and dynamic, making Obi’s possible return to PDP a discussion of interest within the party.
“In politics, nothing is ever certain. I have always maintained that in politics, two plus two is not always equal to four. These are issues of interest and, at times, survival. When existential interest comes into play within a political community or geopolitical zone, anything is possible.”
The lawmaker emphasized that while the PDP leadership has not formally approached Peter Obi, conversations are already ongoing among party stakeholders. According to him, Obi stands a real chance of securing the PDP ticket if he becomes the most acceptable and widely supported aspirant.
Moro further explained:
“As a party, we are yet to officially engage Peter Obi, but discussions are already happening behind the scenes. If he eventually returns and emerges as the most favored and most supported aspirant, he could very well secure the PDP presidential ticket. This would significantly boost the party’s chances of making an impact in the 2027 presidential election.”
The statement has since triggered political debates nationwide, with many Nigerians speculating on the possibility of an alliance between Peter Obi and the PDP. Observers note that Obi’s return could reshape the dynamics of the 2027 elections, especially considering his popularity during the 2023 polls.
