Governor Alex Otti has shared the motivations behind Abia State’s active participation in hosting the Aba International Trade Fair, emphasizing Aba’s strategic importance as a hub for business innovation, trade, and economic growth. The city presents abundant opportunities for entrepreneurs and enterprises looking to expand their horizons.
Showcasing Aba’s Economic Potential
According to Governor Otti, the trade fair is a platform to exhibit Aba’s vast potential to the global business community. He highlighted key factors like the city’s bustling markets, skilled labor force, and strategic location as pivotal elements that can drive sustainable business success.
“This event recognizes Aba’s vital role in Nigeria’s economic growth. Whether it’s job creation, diversification, or boosting national output, Aba has so much to offer,” Otti remarked during the event’s opening ceremony.
The trade fair, held at the Aba Mega Mall complex along the Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway, runs from November 28 to December 7, 2024. Themed “Abia Reforms, Limitless Opportunities,” the event is a collaboration between the Abia State Government and the Aba Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (ACCIMA).
Aba’s First International Trade Fair
Governor Otti noted that while Aba has hosted trade fairs in the past, this marks the city’s first international trade fair, positioning it as a premier commercial hub in Nigeria and West Africa.
“This event is a statement that Aba is reclaiming its place as a leading industrial and commercial center in the West African sub-region,” Otti affirmed.
Commitment to Business Growth
The Governor highlighted significant investments in infrastructure, security, and waste management aimed at restoring Aba’s appeal to investors. He encouraged businesses that had left the city to return, citing reduced challenges and improved conditions.
“Aba is an excellent destination for investments across sectors like real estate, manufacturing, agriculture, and hospitality. We are here to support you in achieving success,” he assured.
Otti expressed pride in hosting the trade fair and commended ACCIMA for elevating the local trade fair to an international standard.
Abia’s Business-Friendly Environment
Governor Otti reassured attendees about Abia’s safety and readiness for business, especially during the festive season. “Abia is safe for business, and we’ve implemented robust security measures to ensure the safety of participants and visitors,” he said.
Opportunities for Collaboration and Growth
The trade fair’s planning committee organized seminars, panel discussions, and networking opportunities to facilitate collaboration among businesses. Notable speakers like Dr. Marizu Uche, CEO of Interlink Technologies, and Engr. Francis Anatogu highlighted Abia’s vast potential for development, echoing the government’s vision of a prosperous state.

Geoffrey Uzoagbara, Chairman of ACCIMA, praised Governor Otti’s reforms, describing them as transformative for Abia State. He cited advancements in infrastructure, security, ease of doing business, and industrial development as evidence of the Governor’s commitment.
In his remarks, Nwaka Inem, Special Adviser to the Governor on Trade and Chairman of the planning committee, described the trade fair as a bold statement of Aba’s resurgence as a commercial powerhouse in West Africa.
