A tragic incident unfolded on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos as an unidentified woman reportedly leaped into the lagoon. Despite swift rescue efforts by the marine police, she was later found lifeless.
Details of the Incident
According to an eyewitness report, the unfortunate event took place around 4:00 p.m. near the University of Lagos (UNILAG) waterfront. Authorities confirmed that marine police officers stationed in the vicinity responded promptly to the emergency.
Although immediate efforts were made to rescue her, the woman was later declared dead upon retrieval. Medical personnel from the University of Lagos confirmed her passing upon arrival at the shore.
Official Confirmation
Benjamin Hundeyin, the Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Police Command, verified the incident, stating that marine police recovered the woman’s body at the UNILAG slipway.
“On March 13, 2025, at approximately 1600 hours, an unidentified woman reportedly jumped into the Lagos lagoon from the Third Mainland Bridge, near the UNILAG waterfront. Marine police officers stationed in the area recovered her body despite all rescue attempts. Sadly, she was confirmed dead by medical experts from the University of Lagos in the presence of Sabo Police Division officers.”
Her remains have since been transferred to the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) Mortuary in Yaba for proper preservation and further investigations.
