Enugu State Governor, Mr. Peter Mbah, has lauded President Bola Tinubu’s recent state visit to France as a pivotal move towards bolstering Nigeria-France relations while creating economic opportunities for states like Enugu.
Governor Mbah, who accompanied the President on the visit, highlighted the economic and developmental prospects that such engagements bring to both national and subnational governments.
Strengthening Bilateral Ties
Speaking in Paris, Mbah described the visit as a demonstration of Nigeria’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with France. He emphasized that beyond diplomacy, these high-level meetings pave the way for investment, trade, and development partnerships that directly benefit states.
“This visit highlights the robust partnership between Nigeria and France,” Mbah stated. “For states like Enugu, it opens doors to explore opportunities in trade, infrastructure, and economic growth.”
Enugu’s Partnerships with France
The governor spotlighted Enugu State’s ongoing collaboration with Agence Française de Développement (AFD), a French development finance institution. AFD is already working with the state to expand its urban water scheme, a project critical to improving access to clean water for residents.
Mbah expressed optimism about leveraging the visit to consolidate existing agreements and identify new areas of cooperation. These include agriculture, infrastructure development, and public-private partnerships.
“For us in Enugu, this trip is not just exploratory. It’s a strategic move to deepen partnerships that will deliver tangible results for our people,” he said.
A Historic Visit
The governor also noted the historic nature of Tinubu’s visit, marking the first state visit by a Nigerian leader to France in 24 years. He praised French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife for their warm reception and underscored the fruitful discussions that reaffirmed the strong ties between the two nations.
“This visit is remarkable,” Mbah remarked. “It underscores the potential of state visits to unlock new economic opportunities, attract investments, and strengthen diplomatic relations.”
Unlocking New Opportunities
Governor Mbah concluded by expressing optimism that the visit would catalyze economic growth, not just for Nigeria but also for states like Enugu. He reiterated that such engagements are essential in exploring new avenues for sustainable development, job creation, and enhanced infrastructure.
