Pastor Chris Oyakhilome DSc DSc DD But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed (James 1:22-25). Notice the very instructive thought in the beginning and latter part of our theme scripture. It says, be a doer of the Word, for it is the doer that gets blessed. That means practise the Word. You may preach and teach the Word, but be sure to be a doer of the Word that you preach and teach. Acting or practising the Word could be likened to a baby learning to walk. You may not perfect it overnight, but as you keep at it, it gets better. So don’t be discouraged if it seems like it didn’t work the first time. What you need to do is to learn some more, hear the Word more, build your faith more, and try again. Romans 10:17 says, “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Faith is a process. If you don’t practise it, you’ll never see growth. It’s like learning to use a tool; faith requires practice; it needs to be used regularly to be effective. For example, in your health, the first thing is to know what the Word says. The Bible says, “Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth” (3 John 1:2). Therefore, it’s clear: God’s plan for you is divine health! There should be no cancer, diabetes, or any such thing in your body. Grasp this truth and live by it, and if you experience any symptoms of sickness in your body, don’t panic. Use the Word! Keep declaring, “I have the life of God in me. I walk in divine health. No sickness, disease or infirmities can thrive in my body.” Hallelujah! Keep yourself in health with God’s Word; it’s medicine for your body (Proverbs 4:20-22). Do the same in your finances; keep practising the Word and exercising your faith. You may say, “But the other day, I declared in the Name of Jesus that I’m getting one million dollars and it didn’t happen.” Maybe you’re not yet at the level where your faith can work for one million dollars; howbeit, don’t give up. As long as you refuse to cower or stagger through unbelief, your faith will certainly prevail. Praise God! PRAYERDear Father, thank you for giving me your Word to live by. As I put my faith to work, it grows and prevails, causing me to live victoriously always, in Jesus’ Name. Amen. Pastor Chris Oyakhilome DSc DSc DD For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him (2 Corinthians 5:21). Notice carefully the choice of words as inspired by the Spirit in the scripture above: Christ Jesus was made sin for us, that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him. This is much more than being made righteous; rather, it means that we’ve become the very expression of His righteousness. This is Christianity. This is the Gospel. We’re the expression of God’s goodness, His kindness, grace, wisdom, power and glory. We’re the expression of His personality; everything the Father is, and represents, is expressed in and through us. The Lord Jesus made a profound statement when He said, “…he that hath seen me hath seen the Father…” (John 14:9). In John 10:30, He also said, “I and my Father are one.” He expressed the will and nature of the Father. He’s described for us in Hebrews 1:3 as the express image of the Father, the facsimile, print-copy or profile of the Father, the ultimate icon of God. We’re exactly like Him. 1 John 4:17 says as He is, so are we in this world. Like Jesus, we’re the expression of the will and character of God. That’s one of the definitions of righteousness: it’s the expression of the will and nature of God. Therefore, having been made His righteousness, we have the ability to manifest and express the will and nature of the Father everywhere: in every situation, in every event, and in every matter. Blessed be God! PRAYERDear heavenly Father, I thank you for making Christ Jesus, who knew no sin to be sin for me, that I might become the expression of your righteousness, endowed with the ability to manifest and express your will and nature in all things. Pastor Chris Oyakhilome DSc DSc DD Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof (Proverbs 18:21). God didn’t give us His Word just so we agree with it; it was given to us to use. The Bible tells us that in the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. How did He do it? It was with words. He spoke creation into existence. God’s Word is God’s creative material. When He says something, it becomes; whatever He says manifests. And He created us to look like Him and function like Him. The most important part of your life is your ability to use words. Maybe you didn’t know it, but words define your life. Words define your value. Words define your personality. You are no better or greater than your words. Your life is the expression, manifestation, and reflection of your words. It doesn’t take long to know who a person is; all they have to do is speak for a few minutes. Your words locate you; they reveal where you are; they shape your life. Consider how Jesus used words. His words carried power, wisdom and authority. He changed circumstances and transformed lives with words. Crowds gathered, thousands of people thronged Him, just to hear Him speak. When He calmed the storm, the disciples were astonished and said, “…What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!” (Matthew 8:27). His authority over nature left them in awe, as they witnessed His power to command the elements with words. When He commanded demons to come out, the people said in amazement, “…with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out” (Luke 4:36). The Pharisees talked about demons, but Jesus spoke to the demons with authority. He rehearsed to us how to use words. He said in Mark 11:23, “you shall have what you say.” So be a master of words. Have faith in your words, for the Word of God in your mouth is God talking; it’ll prevail and produce what it talks about. Hallelujah! PRAYERDear Father, I thank you for the power of your Word in my life. My words are filled with faith and life, and they shape my destiny. The example of Moses in our theme scripture is what God expects of us. Moses didn’t live in Jesus’ day, but he had a revelation of his calling and identity with the saviour, because when you identify with Him, you become a saviour. And that’s what Moses became. The Bible says through him, God delivered (saved) the children of Israel from Egypt. Going to confront Pharaoh to let God’s people go was at the risk of his life but he esteemed that assignment beyond any resultant peril. Pastor Chris Oyakhilome PDSc DSc DD But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy (1 Peter 2:9-10). Mark 10:46-52 tells the remarkable story of the healing of a certain blind man named Bartimaeus. One day, as the Lord Jesus and His disciples were leaving the city of Jericho, Bartimaeus was sitting by the roadside, begging. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth passing by, he began to shout, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Many people around him rebuked him, telling him to be quiet, but Bartimaeus shouted even louder, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” Jesus stopped and called for Bartimaeus to come to Him. Throwing off his cloak, Bartimaeus jumped to his feet and approached Jesus. Jesus asked him, “What do you want me to do for you?” The blind man replied, “Rabbi, I want to see.” Moved by Bartimaeus’ faith, Jesus said, “Go, your faith has healed you.” Immediately, Bartimaeus received his sight. He pleaded with the Master to have mercy on him, and it worked. But unlike Bartimaeus, today, as a new creation in Christ, you don’t need to cry, pray or “beg” the Lord for mercy; you have obtained mercy. Hallelujah! Recall what we read in our opening scripture. In Christ, abundant mercy has been given to us before we even thought to ask for it. And if you ever felt like you required His mercy for anything, Hebrews 4:16 says, “Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.” What a remarkable truth! We’re not told to ask for mercy; we’re told to obtain it. It has already been made available to us in Christ, and we simply take what has been given. So, how much mercy do you want? How much grace do you need, and for what do you require it? You don’t have to beg for it; just collect it! This is amazing because it shows us the lavishness of God’s provision. He gave us mercy and grace before we even had the sense to ask. All we need is to receive. Hallelujah! Pastor Chris Oyahkilome DSc DSc DD That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus (Philemon 1:6). In our previous study, I explained the insightful words of the Apostle Paul in Romans 15:29, where he expressed his intentions regarding his visit to the Roman church: “And I am sure that, when I come unto you, I shall come in the fulness of the blessing of the gospel of Christ.” If Paul could walk in the fullness of the blessings of the Gospel, so can you! It’s your calling. Many are however at sea as to how to walk in this reality; how to walk in the fulness of the blessing of the Gospel of Christ! But our theme verse reveals an important truth that’s very key. It says, “That the communication of thy faith may become effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus.” That means the sharing or participation of your faith, the exercise of your faith will become effectual through the acknowledgment of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus. In other words, the way to make your faith effectual is by acknowledging the good things in you in Christ Jesus. The word “acknowledge” is translated from the Greek “epignōsis.” It means to have full discernment, a recognition. It is the knowledge in which the knower relates to that which is known; it’s a knowledge that involves a relationship with the object of knowledge. It is a precise, accurate and correct understanding of what God has made you and what He has deposited in you through the Gospel. Now that you’re born again and in Christ Jesus, there are certain good things within you that He wants you to take knowledge of. The Word of God and the ministry of the Holy Spirit remain the only reliable source for you to acquire this kind of knowledge. Again, in Colossians 1:9, Paul uses the same word, epignosis: “For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge, (Greek: epignosis) of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding.” Walking in the fullness of the blessing of the Gospel requires active acknowledgement, full and precise knowledge of the good things within you in Christ. Blessed be God! PRAYERDear Father, I thank you for the good things that are in me. I acknowledge and walk in the fullness of these blessings, producing results in my life and being a blessing to others. Pastor Chris Oyahkilome DSc DSc DD And I am sure that, when I come unto you, I shall come in the fulness of the blessing of the gospel of Christ (Romans 15:29). The Apostle Paul’s declaration in the verse above is absolutely profound. He spoke with certainty, saying, “…I am sure that, when I come unto you, I shall come in the fulness of the blessing of the gospel of Christ.” This statement reveals the possibility of walking in the fullness of the blessing of the Gospel of Jesus Christ while on earth. Paul did not say he would pray for this to happen; he confidently declared it as a reality he walked in. Whatdoes it mean to walk in the fullness of the blessing of the Gospel? It signifies living in the complete manifestation of the inheritance of Christ, demonstrating His blessings, power and divine nature. This isn’t an experience reserved for us in the sweet-by-and-by; this is to be experienced on earth, and in this time. Paul’s confidence stemmed from his understanding of our life in Christ. His writings are a testament to this reality. For example, he said, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me” (Philippians 4:13). He also affirmed, “…I have all, and abound…” (Philippians 4:18). These are the words of someone walking in the fullness of Christ’s blessings. This fullness is not theoretical; it is real and attainable. However, many miss out because they yield to fear or follow the wrong path. Paul understood his identity in Christ. He declared, “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me” (Galatians 2:20). What a consciousness! This understanding made Paul bold, unstoppable and unwavering. He walked in righteousness and maintained oneness with the Holy Spirit. He lived a life free from frustration and defeat, saying, “Christ in me, the hope of glory” (Colossians 1:27). This is the life we are called to live—a life of victory, dominion and glory in the fullness of the blessing of the Gospel of Christ. So today, live in the consciousness of your divine inheritance, demonstrating God’s glory, power and righteousness. Be strong, courageous and victorious, walking in complete oneness with the Holy Spirit. Hallelujah! PRAYERDear Father, I thank you for calling me to walk in the fullness of the blessing of the Gospel of Christ. Pastor Chris Oyahkilome DSc DSc DD Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching (Hebrews 10:25). One of the things you must become more conscious of and take very seriously as we anticipate the Lord’s soon return is what the Bible says in Hebrews 10:25 (NIV), “Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another–and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” If you’ve been found wanting in this aspect, not taking church attendance very seriously, you need to change and make it a priority. Be regular with your church attendance, because in the house of God, you’ll learn the Word of God and be established in the Faith. This isn’t optional but a clear instruction for every child of God. Today, there’s so much information competing for your attention. This is one more reason why you must prioritize church attendance. Don’t assume you’ll know it by merely thinking about it. The Scriptures have been given to educate, inform, and culture us in the things of God. The Lord Jesus said, “Search the Scriptures…” (John 5:39) and Paul admonished, “Study the Word” (2 Timothy 2:15). What better way to learn and share the Scriptures than with other Christians in Church! In the Old Testament, God commanded the children of Israel to gather at appointed times. In the New Testament, the principle remains; you must present yourself in the house of God. It’s not about hopping from one church to another every Sunday; rather, be committed and actively participate in the activities in your church family. Get introduced to the leaders of the church and make yourself known. Identify with the family of God. The love you have for other Christians is a testimony in your spirit that you’ve passed from death to life as 1 John 3:14 says,“We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.” Present yourself in the house of God and make yourself available for the Spirit of God to minister to you through the Word. The Bible describes the church as the pillar and ground of truth, the custodian of God’s revelation. So, prioritize church attendance and let the Word of God transform your life from glory to glory. Hallelujah! PRAYERDear Father, thank you for the privilege of belonging to your family. I commit myself to learning and living by your Word, presenting and making myself a committed member of a church family, and demonstrating your love to others. Pastor Chris Oyakhilome DSc DSc DD Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us (Romans 8:37). Think about what we just read in our opening scripture! It means your victory over the adversary is already settled. It’s the result of what Jesus accomplished for us through His death, burial and resurrection. Today, your responsibility is to maintain that victory; rule your world. Take charge. God has given you the dominion and the authority to alter the course of events in the earth, using the Name of Jesus. Revelation 1:6 tells us something remarkable; it says God has “…made us kings and priests….” Kings rule. Kings exercise dominion and exert authority. Romans 5:17 tells us something equally beautiful; it says, “…they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.” That’s your calling: to reign in life through Jesus Christ. The Bible tells us that God set Jesus Christ in the high place of glory, put all things under His feet, and legally declared Him to be the head over all things for the benefit of the Church: “And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, Which is his body, the fullness of him that filleth all in all” (Ephesians 1:22-23). The Church is His body; therefore, if all things have been placed beneath His feet, and you’re part of His body, it means all things have been placed under your feet. Satan, failure, sickness, poverty and death are all under your feet. Glory be to God! You’re seated at the right hand of God in Christ Jesus; that means you’re in the place of divine authority and power. Therefore, reign in life, and rule over circumstances. Hallelujah! Tuesday,Pastor Chris Oyakhilome DSc DSc DD For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart (Hebrews 4:12). I love the James Moffatt’s rendering of the verse above. It says, “For the Logos of God is a living thing, active and more cutting than any sword with double edge, penetrating to the very division of soul and spirit, joints and marrow — scrutinizing the very thoughts and conceptions of the heart.” That’s the Word; it’s a living thing. The Amplified version says, “It’s living and active”: “For the word of God is living and active and full of power [making it operative, energizing, and effective]. It is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating as far as the division of the soul and spirit [the completeness of a person], and of both joints and marrow [the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and judging the very thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Imagine inundating your spirit with the Word; it’ll have a great impact on your soul and body! When the pressures of life come, when you’re squeezed by life’s challenges, it’s the Word that’ll come forth. And God’s Word is God’s creative material; it’ll produce what it talks about. 1 Timothy 4:15 says, “Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.” Also, Joshua 1:8 says, “This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.” Instead of worrying about your health and trying to figure out every little sensation in your body; meditate onthe Word. The Word will keep you in health and safety. When you face difficulties, respond with the Word. God’sWord holds the power to change circumstances and bring life to every situation. Pastor Chris Oyakhilome DSc DSc DD Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly… (Colossians 3:16). There’s something so important and beautiful that Jesus said in John 15:7, and it explains why you need to have the Word of God abundantly in you. He said, “If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.” You have to abide in Him and have His Word abide in you. That’s what fortifies you against the troubles and adversities of life. It brings to mind what He said in John 8:31, “…If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed.” It’s about abiding or continuing in His Word, doing the Word, never giving up. But if you don’t know His words, how can they abide in you? You’ve got to hear them, learn them, study them, and keep them in you. And here’s the beautiful result of having the Word abide in you: “…ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you” (John 15:7). The word translated “ask” here is ‘aiteo,’ which means “to call or require.” So, itmeans to call up or call forth what you desire. The phrase “be done” comes from the Greek word “ginomai,” meaning to come into being. The Lord Jesus is saying, “If my words abide in you, you shall call whatever you think about, whatever you require, and it will come into being.” That’s powerful! It makes spiritual sense because if God’s Word is abundant in you, why should you beg for anything? God’s Word is the creator of all things. The Bible says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made” (John 1:1-3). If all things were made by the Word, and that Word is in you, why not release the Word instead of begging? Call forth what you desire, and it will manifest; it will leap into reality! So, heap up the Word in you and it’ll cause you to triumph in life. PRAYERDear Father, thank you for the power of your Word at work in me. Your Word is in my heart and on my lips. Even now, I call forth my desires; your Word on my lips creates realities. All things work together for my good, and I live a victorious, fulfilled life because I walk in the light of your Word, in Jesus’ Name. Amen. Pastor Chris Oyakhilome DSc DSc DD And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it (John 14:13-14). When you study the words of the Master in the scripture above, you’ll realize that He was referring to using His Name with authority; doing great works in His Name. He was emphasizing the power and authority vested in His Name, making it clear to us that this authority is effective in bringing about any desiredresult. Hallelujah! Let’s examine those words a bit more: first, He said, “If you shall ask anything in my name….” To ask here means to demand something. The Lord Jesus was referring to situations where you demand that something should happen in His Name. At such moments, He says, “I will cause it to happen.” What an assurance! This is a demonstration of the authority we have in His Name. An example of this can be found in Acts chapter 3, where Peter and John encountered a man who had been crippled from birth. Peter simply used the Name of Jesus with the understanding of the authority that it wields. He understood what Jesus meant when He said, “And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do…” (John 14:13). As a result, Peter demanded healing for the man who was crippled from birth. The Bible says, “And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God” (Acts 3:7-8). This is precisely what Jesus was talking about—using His Name with authority. Recall what He said in John 10:25, “…I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father’s name, they bear witness of me.” He commissioned us to do the same in His Name. We have the authority to speak to anything in His Name and have a miracle. You can speak to broken bones, blind eyes, and every challenging situation in His Name, and there’ll be a change. Glory to God! When you speak in His Name, He’s present with divine power to ensure that your words come to pass. He guarantees the results. This is the authority we’ve been given; it’s power beyond this world; power to change circumstances in His Name. Hallelujah! Pastor Chris Oyakhilome DSc DSc DD For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation (Romans 10:10). The word “salvation” is a unique word that’s oftenonly used by those who believe in Jesus Christ. While many may have a general idea of what it means, only a few have explored the Scriptures to grasp its true meaning and implications. Salvation, simply, means to deliver, to make whole, and to preserve. That’s what Jesus brought to us. He “saved” us, andthe term ‘saved’ originates from the Greek word “sozo,”which embodies the full scope of what Jesus Christ’s death, burial and resurrection achieved for mankind. So when we say that Jesus brought salvation, it means He brought deliverance, completeness and preservation. Thus, when you say you’re saved by Jesus Christ, it means He delivered you, made you complete, and preserved you. You’ve been delivered from the power of darkness, from sin, from fear, from death and Satan’s dominion, into God’s perfect will. Colossians 1:12-14 says, _*“Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins.”*_ Having been delivered, He brings you into that state of completeness, protecting you, and stopping anything or anyone from affecting the wholeness He has givenyou. Now that you’re born again, you’re whole, sound and exactly as He intended in His perfect will. Nothing is left out in your life. You’re perfected in Him. Hallelujah! This is why the understanding of the full message of salvation is important. Paul explained in his letter to the Roman Church, _*“But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation”*_ (Romans 10:8-10). This is what we preach; that in Christ Jesus, you’ve been delivered, made whole and preserved. Blessed be God! *PRAYER* *Dear Father, I thank you for the gift of salvation that I have received in Christ Jesus.
