Trump Issues Stark Warning to Venezuela’s Incoming Leader as Maduro Faces US Court Appearance

Former United States President Donald Trump has issued a strong warning to Venezuela’s incoming leader, Delcy Rodríguez, cautioning that she could face consequences “even more severe than Nicolás Maduro” if she fails to act in line with Washington’s expectations. Trump made the statement during an interview with The Atlantic, as Venezuela’s ousted president, Nicolás Maduro, was preparing to appear before a New York court on Monday. Maduro is facing multiple charges from US authorities, including allegations related to drug trafficking and weapons offenses—claims he has consistently rejected. The US government accuses Maduro of operating what it describes as a “narco-terrorist” system. Despite these accusations, Maduro has denied any involvement in criminal networks and insists that the charges are politically motivated. Rodríguez Signals Willingness to Engage the United States Delcy Rodríguez, who previously served as Maduro’s vice president, adopted a notably moderate tone during her first cabinet meeting on Sunday. She publicly expressed openness to cooperation with the United States, emphasizing diplomacy and adherence to international law. “We extend an invitation to the United States government to work with us on a cooperative agenda focused on shared development, within the boundaries of international law,” Rodríguez stated. Supported by Venezuela’s Supreme Court and the nation’s military leadership, Rodríguez is scheduled to be officially sworn in as president on Monday morning in Caracas at 08:00 local time (12:00 GMT). US Officials Deny War Declaration Despite Military Action US Secretary of State Marco Rubio dismissed claims that the United States is at war with Venezuela, following military operations in Caracas on Saturday that resulted in the arrest of Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores. The pair were subsequently transported to the United States. Some Democratic lawmakers criticized the action, labeling it an “act of war.” However, Rubio maintained that the operation targeted criminal networks rather than the Venezuelan state itself. “We are not at war with Venezuela,” Rubio said during an appearance on NBC’s Meet the Press. “We are at war with international drug trafficking organizations.” Trump Threatens Consequences and Supports Regime Change In his interview with The Atlantic, Trump reiterated his warning to Rodríguez, saying that failure to “do what’s right” would result in serious repercussions. He argued that political change in Venezuela—regardless of how it is defined—would be an improvement over the current situation. “Call it regime change or whatever you want,” Trump remarked. “Anything is better than what exists now. It can’t get worse.” Trump also posted an image on social media showing Maduro aboard the USS Iwo Jima after his arrest, depicting him wearing a blindfold and headphones. The former president further claimed that the United States would temporarily oversee Venezuela until a “safe, proper, and judicious transition” could take place. He added that US oil companies would be brought in to repair infrastructure and revive oil production for economic benefit. Regional Tensions and International Fallout Despite Trump’s statements, Maduro’s political allies remain influential within Venezuela. Cuba, a longstanding ally of the Venezuelan government, reported that 32 Cuban combatants were killed during the US operation. The Cuban government declared two days of national mourning in response. Rubio also warned that the United States retains “multiple levers of leverage” should Venezuela fail to comply with US expectations. Among those measures is the continued restriction—described as a “quarantine”—on Venezuelan oil exports. “We’re going to assess everything based on their actions,” Rubio said. “Our interests will be protected.” Trump Expands Criticism to Colombia Trump did not limit his remarks to Venezuela alone. Speaking aboard Air Force One, he issued harsh comments about neighboring Colombia and its president, Gustavo Petro. He suggested that military action against Colombia was not off the table, stating that such a move “sounds good,” and accused Petro of overseeing cocaine production destined for the United States. Trump described the Colombian leader as “a sick man” and claimed Colombia was being run by a deeply flawed administration. Maduro’s Arrest and Legal Proceedings Maduro, who has led Venezuela since 2013 as head of the United Socialist Party, has long faced accusations of suppressing opposition voices and limiting political freedoms—often through force. Both domestic opponents and international governments have questioned the legitimacy of his victory in Venezuela’s 2024 election. According to US officials, Maduro and his wife were apprehended at their residence during a coordinated special forces operation conducted in the early hours of Saturday. The mission also involved air strikes on military installations. The couple now faces formal charges related to drug trafficking and weapons violations and is expected to appear before a New York court. Maduro has dismissed the accusations, asserting that the US is exploiting its so-called “war on drugs” as a justification to remove him from power and gain access to Venezuela’s oil resources. Disputed Casualties and Congressional Oversight While US authorities claim no American personnel were injured during the operation, Venezuela’s Defense Minister, Vladimir Padrino, alleged that numerous members of Maduro’s security detail, along with soldiers and civilians, were killed. Rubio defended the lack of congressional notification, stating that the mission did not qualify as an invasion and therefore did not require prior approval. He described it as a law-enforcement action carried out on the ground by FBI agents. “You can’t inform Congress in advance about an operation like this—it would leak,” Rubio said during an interview with ABC. When asked whether the United States recognizes Delcy Rodríguez as Venezuela’s legitimate president, Rubio responded that legitimacy was not the issue, emphasizing that Washington does not recognize the Venezuelan regime as valid. Lilu Killings: Youths Call on Soludo to Declare State of Emergency

A fresh and urgent Save Our Soul (SOS) appeal has once again been directed to the Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, following the worsening security situation in Lilu Community, located within Ihiala Local Government Area of the state. Concerned youths of the community, operating under the banner of the Concerned Youths Organisation of Lilu, revealed that insecurity in the area has escalated to alarming levels. According to them, incidents of kidnapping, indiscriminate killings of residents, and rampant destruction of properties through arson have become frequent and almost routine, thereby forcing them to speak out publicly. During an interaction with journalists who visited the community on an on-the-spot assessment, the group’s spokesperson, identified simply as Emeka, explained that the appeal was unavoidable due to the scale of devastation and fear gripping the community. He stated that the youth body is determined to exhaust every legitimate avenue to draw both state and federal government attention to the persistent crisis confronting their people. Standing alongside fellow youths and community members at the ruins of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, which showed clear evidence of violent attacks allegedly carried out by hoodlums, Emeka described the destruction as a painful reminder of the unchecked insecurity plaguing Lilu. The group passionately urged Governor Soludo to immediately declare a state of emergency on insecurity in the community. According to Emeka, such an emergency declaration remains the most effective step capable of enabling security agencies to flush out criminal elements and restore peace and normalcy in the affected areas. He maintained that without decisive intervention, the situation may continue to deteriorate. Beyond security concerns, the youths also appealed to the state government to decentralise the “One Youth, Two Skills” empowerment programme. They argued that bringing the programme closer to grassroots communities like Lilu would allow more young people to participate. Emeka explained that a significant number of youths within and around Lilu are idle, unemployed, uneducated, and unskilled, making them vulnerable and excluded from empowerment opportunities. He noted that many potential beneficiaries feel shy, discouraged, or uncomfortable travelling the long distance from Lilu to Awka merely to inquire about or register for the programme, regardless of its potential benefits. Expressing deep frustration, the youth leader warned that the community might be left with no option but to escalate the matter beyond the state government. He stated that petitions could be sent to the National Assembly, the United Nations, the European Union, President Donald Trump, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, and the Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU), stressing that it has become increasingly apparent to them that the Anambra State Government appears to show little urgency or commitment toward resolving their plight. The Concerned Youths Organisation further lamented that nearly 70 percent of Lilu Community has allegedly fallen under the control of armed men. They specifically mentioned Umuezeala, Eziorsu, Umuodochi, Uhualabor, and Enugwu-Ezenduru villages, among others, as areas severely affected. The group expressed the belief that a well-coordinated and sustained security operation lasting a few hours would be sufficient to dislodge, overpower, and eliminate the hoodlums occupying their community, if the political will is present. Tinubu, Kagame Hold Strategic Meeting as Nigeria Expands Diplomatic Reach

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recently held a private lunch discussion with Rwandan President Paul Kagame in Paris, France, further underlining Nigeria’s steady push to deepen diplomatic relationships across Africa and other influential global centres. The quiet but significant engagement took place on the sidelines of President Tinubu’s international engagements in the French capital. While no official agenda was released, the meeting reflects Nigeria’s growing emphasis on discreet, high-level diplomacy as a tool for advancing foreign policy goals. The interaction was made public by the President’s Special Assistant on Social Media, Dele Olusegun, who shared the update through his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, @DOlusegun. The absence of detailed briefings surrounding the meeting has been interpreted by observers as a deliberate diplomatic approach, often employed to allow frank exchanges without public pressure. Paris Emerges as a Key Diplomatic Hub for Nigeria Since assuming office in 2023, President Tinubu has increasingly used Paris as a strategic location for bilateral engagements. The city has hosted several of his high-level meetings, including past discussions with French President Emmanuel Macron. These meetings have frequently occurred alongside global summits or official working visits, positioning France as a recurring platform for Nigeria’s international outreach. Diplomatic sources suggest that such engagements allow Nigeria to maintain visibility within global decision-making circles while fostering partnerships that align with its long-term economic and security interests. Nigeria–Rwanda Relations and African Cooperation Nigeria and Rwanda share cordial bilateral relations grounded in mutual commitments within the African Union (AU). Both countries have consistently supported initiatives focused on economic integration, particularly through the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), as well as regional peace, security collaboration, and institutional reforms across the continent. Earlier in February 2025, Presidents Tinubu and Kagame also met in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. That earlier engagement, combined with the Paris meeting, points to a sustained dialogue between two of Africa’s most influential leaders from West and East Africa respectively. Foreign policy analysts view these side-line discussions as essential avenues for aligning national interests, sharing perspectives on continental challenges, and strengthening Nigeria’s leadership influence within Africa’s regional blocs. Falana Raises Concerns Over Nigeria’s Security Capacity In a related national discourse, prominent human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, expressed strong concerns regarding the country’s ongoing security challenges. He argued that Nigeria’s armed forces possess the capacity to overcome terrorism and banditry if they are adequately motivated and properly equipped. Falana, who spoke with journalists in his hometown of Ilawe Ekiti, lamented that insurgents and criminal groups, as seen in various online videos, sometimes appear better armed than Nigeria’s security personnel. He attributed this situation to years of neglect and mismanagement of key security institutions. According to him, funds earmarked for military hardware and ammunition were allegedly diverted by some individuals, weakening the nation’s defence capabilities. Falana urged the Federal Government to establish effective mechanisms to recover such funds and redirect them toward strengthening the armed forces. He stressed that with proper funding, motivation, and accountability, Nigeria’s military could decisively address terrorism and banditry without relying on foreign intervention. Warnings Over Global Power Politics and Sovereignty Meanwhile, former Nigerian Ambassador to the Philippines, Dr Yemi Farounbi, weighed in on recent global developments, particularly actions taken by former United States President Donald Trump concerning Venezuela. Farounbi described the situation as a clear example of how power dynamics often overshadow international law in global affairs. He warned that such actions undermine national sovereignty and could destabilise international diplomacy. Analysts have echoed these concerns, suggesting that unilateral interventions by powerful nations risk weakening multilateral institutions such as the United Nations (UN). They argue that bypassing established global frameworks could expose smaller nations to increased pressure and insecurity. Speaking in Ibadan, Farounbi cautioned that the precedent set in Venezuela could embolden other global powers. He warned that countries like Russia might feel justified in exerting stronger influence over former Soviet states, while dominant nations in Africa and the Middle East could exploit smaller neighbours, potentially escalating regional instability. Portable Escapes Police Arrest After Alleged Assault on Baby Mama Ashabi Simple

Popular but controversial Nigerian street-hop singer, Habeeb Okikiola, widely known as Portable, has reportedly evaded police arrest following an alleged physical altercation involving his fourth baby mama, actress Ashabi Simple. The incident was said to have occurred on Thursday, January 1, 2026, when Ashabi visited Portable’s bar located in Ogun State. What was meant to be a casual visit reportedly turned into a heated confrontation that later gained massive attention on social media. A video that surfaced online captured a tense moment between both parties. In the footage, Ashabi was seen holding onto Portable’s clothing while expressing frustration over being repeatedly referred to as just a “baby mama.” She emotionally demanded that the singer acknowledge her as his wife and not merely the mother of his child. During the exchange, Ashabi was heard insisting that she deserved recognition beyond the title of baby mama, stating that she was exhausted from the constant labeling. Portable, however, reacted forcefully by pushing her away and making it clear that he only recognizes one woman as his wife, identified as Bewaji. According to Portable, every other woman who has children for him falls strictly under the category of baby mamas and not wives. His blunt response reportedly intensified the disagreement, pushing the situation further out of control. Visibly emotional, Ashabi responded passionately, declaring that she was willing to face death rather than accept the humiliation, a statement that shocked many viewers who later watched the viral clip. Following the incident, Ashabi, alongside her siblings, proceeded to report the matter to the police, accusing Portable of assault, abuse, and intimidation. In a separate video shared on her Instagram page, Ashabi narrated her side of the story in detail. She explained that she had initially spent the New Year celebrations peacefully with her family before receiving a call from Portable, who allegedly told her he was not in a good mood. She further claimed that Portable requested she bring New Year food to his bar, a request she agreed to. Upon arriving at the bar, she contacted him and was asked to meet him outside. It was during this meeting that a disagreement reportedly broke out, leading to her being slapped and physically attacked. Ashabi alleged that Portable seized their phones and threatened her and her siblings with an axe, escalating the situation into one of fear and distress. She added that when the police later visited Portable’s residence, they encountered his pregnant wife, Bewaji, as the singer had already fled the scene to avoid arrest. The incident has continued to stir mixed reactions across Nigeria’s online space. While some social media users condemned Portable’s alleged actions, others criticized Ashabi, accusing her of forcing herself into the singer’s life. A section of commentators also expressed concern over what they described as emotional dependency and low self-esteem. As of the time of reporting, the matter remains a subject of intense public debate, with many calling for accountability and others urging restraint and deeper reflection on relationship boundaries and domestic conflicts involving public figures. Yobe Boat Mishap: Fatalities Increase to 29 as Search Continues for Missing Victims

A devastating boat accident in Nguru Local Government Area of Yobe State has resulted in a rising death toll, as emergency officials confirm that more victims have been recovered from the water. According to the latest update, the number of confirmed deaths has increased from 25 to 29 following the discovery of additional bodies. The tragic incident has continued to draw attention as rescue teams intensify efforts to locate those still unaccounted for. The Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (YSEMA) disclosed that among the 29 deceased persons recovered so far, 24 victims were residents of Nguru Local Government Area, two were from Yusufari Local Government Area, while three bodies were identified as coming from Gurin in Jigawa State. This breakdown highlights the wide impact of the incident across neighboring communities. Emergency responders confirmed that 12 individuals were successfully rescued and later discharged after receiving medical attention, while three survivors were admitted for treatment. Out of those hospitalized, two have since been discharged, leaving medical teams to continue monitoring recovery outcomes. Despite the progress made, eight persons remain missing, and search operations are still actively ongoing. Local divers, volunteers, and emergency personnel are working together to comb the waterways in hopes of locating the remaining victims. In response to the tragedy, the Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Umar, has directed the immediate activation of the agency’s Maiduguri Operations Office. This move enables the deployment of a specialized Emergency Response Team to reinforce ongoing rescue activities in the affected area. A statement released by NEMA confirmed that the deployed team will collaborate closely with the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency, alongside other relevant bodies, to strengthen coordination and improve the effectiveness of the search-and-rescue mission. Mrs. Umar expressed profound condolences to families who lost loved ones in the accident. She reaffirmed NEMA’s commitment to working alongside state emergency agencies, local emergency committees, trained divers, and community volunteers until the rescue operation reaches a conclusion. Additionally, the NEMA Director-General used the opportunity to once again urge riverine communities to adopt strict safety practices during water transportation. She emphasized the importance of avoiding boat overloading and ensuring that life-saving equipment is worn at all times to reduce the risk of future tragedies. As rescue operations continue, authorities maintain their appeal for cooperation from local residents while reaffirming their dedication to saving lives and improving water transport safety across vulnerable regions. “I Would Have Died” — Actress Bimbo Thomas Recounts Terrifying Armed Robbery Experience on Omo Ghetto 2 Movie Set

Popular Nollywood actress Bimbo Thomas has opened up about a deeply frightening experience that nearly turned fatal during the filming of the blockbuster movie Omo Ghetto: The Saga. The actress revealed that armed robbers allegedly invaded a hotel where cast and crew members were lodged during production in Ebute Metta, Lagos, an incident she described as one of the most traumatic moments of her life. Bimbo Thomas, who played the character Nikky in the Funke Akindele–led movie, explained that the attack happened at a time when the production team was already dealing with intense pressure and frequent disruptions. According to her, the incident was not random but appeared to be targeted, with strong indications that Funke Akindele was the main focus of the attackers. Speaking during an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, the actress recounted how filming Omo Ghetto 2, a movie centered on street culture and gang life, attracted unwanted attention from local hoodlums within the filming environment. She explained that shooting in Ebute Metta came with constant interruptions from street boys who felt connected to the storyline of the film. “We were filming in Ebute Metta, and the boys around kept disturbing us because the movie reflected their real-life experiences,” she said. Despite being familiar with the area and having grown up there, Bimbo Thomas noted that this did not protect the production team from harassment. As the disturbances intensified, additional security had to be brought in to ensure filming could continue. “It’s my area. I thought they would respect me, but we still had to bring in security so we could do our job,” she added. The terrifying incident occurred late at night, after filming activities had ended for the day. Members of the cast were accommodated in different hotels across the area. Bimbo Thomas revealed that she was initially staying at a different hotel before Funke Akindele insisted she join her. According to her, Funke suggested they relax and have a massage session, something they usually did after long workdays. Actress Eniola Badmus, she noted, was lodged in another hotel entirely. The situation escalated shortly before 1:00 a.m., when loud noises shattered the calm atmosphere. “We suddenly heard heavy banging and people shouting ‘Ole! Ole!’,” she recalled. Almost immediately, fear took over as it became clear that the hotel was under attack. Panic spread among everyone inside, with prayers becoming the only response. Bimbo Thomas described Funke Akindele as very prayerful, stating that everyone present began praying intensely as they tried to understand what was happening. Believing Funke was the primary target due to her celebrity status, they attempted to protect her. “I told them she was the face everyone recognized. We tried hiding her under the bed, but it didn’t work, so we moved her into the bathroom,” she explained. Funke Akindele reportedly hid under her gown in the bathroom while others knelt in fear, praying for survival. “The masseuse was praying in tongues, Funke was praying in tongues, and I was begging God for mercy,” Thomas said. Although the attackers initially failed to gain access, they returned moments later with greater force and successfully broke into the hotel. “When they came back, it was clear they were looking for Funke. They were calling her name,” she revealed. Eventually, Funke Akindele came out of hiding. Bimbo Thomas said she initially believed the attackers would simply steal valuables and leave. However, the situation took an unexpected and disturbing turn. “They asked her to dress up and dragged her downstairs to her car,” she said. What followed left everyone in shock. “I suddenly heard Funke singing Emi Omo Ghetto. I didn’t understand what was happening. They told her to sing and dance, and she did,” Thomas recounted. She further revealed that although only six armed men entered the hotel, there were about twenty others stationed outside, a detail they only discovered later. “We didn’t know they were that many. We were completely helpless,” she said. Emergency calls were immediately placed to influential individuals, including Oba Saheed Elegushi, who reportedly mobilized support. Not long after, officers from the Panti Police Station arrived at the scene. Gunshots rang out as security forces engaged the attackers, forcing them to flee. “It was chaos everywhere. Someone was shot, a pastor was rushed to the hospital, and about 20 to 30 of us were stranded at the reception—confused, scared, and praying,” she said. Months later, Bimbo Thomas learned that several of the attackers had been arrested, while others were reportedly killed during follow-up operations. “I was grateful. At that moment, I was ready to attack one of them without thinking. I could have been killed,” she admitted. She traced the attack back to an earlier incident during filming when some hoodlums who disrupted the set were arrested and compelled to record apology videos. “Even though we settled the area before filming, that incident hurt them deeply,” she explained. Describing the entire experience as cruel and emotionally draining, Bimbo Thomas said the trauma stayed with her long after the incident. She also recalled a conversation with Funke Akindele later on. “When she asked why I didn’t hand her over, I told her if they were going to kill her, they would have killed all of us together,” she said. Ending her account on a note of gratitude, the actress emphasized how close they came to death. “We are truly grateful to God,” she concluded.

Abia State: Former President-General Killed Days After Public Appeal for Protection

Fresh details have continued to surface following the killing of Mr. Igwe Akuma Akwu, a former President-General of the National Association of Ohafia Students (NAOS), whose death has sent shockwaves across Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State. Mr. Akwu, a young community leader and native of Ndi Uma compound in Okon-Aku, Ohafia LGA, was reportedly shot dead by unidentified gunmen on Friday, January 2, 2026. His killing triggered widespread anger among residents, leading to unrest and the destruction of several properties within the community. In response to the incident, the Abia State Police Command confirmed that some suspects had been taken into custody. The police further disclosed that two tactical units were immediately deployed to the affected area to restore calm and prevent further breakdown of law and order. However, emerging information from the late Akwu’s social media activity has revealed that his death may not have been entirely unexpected. Records show that three days before his assassination, he publicly alerted both government authorities and security agencies about threats to his life and the safety of members of his community. In a detailed post dated December 30, 2025, Mr. Akwu recounted a series of troubling incidents he had endured over time. He stated that in January 2025, he was allegedly attacked and severely beaten by individuals he described as thugs working on behalf of a powerful figure. He further disclosed that his Toyota Corolla vehicle was set on fire on October 28, 2025, claiming that those responsible openly boasted of having strong connections within government circles. These events, according to him, created an atmosphere of fear and insecurity around his family and community. Adding to the gravity of the situation, Mr. Akwu also revealed in the same post that his five-year-old cousin went missing following one of the reported attacks. He expressed deep concern over the incident and suggested that it was part of a broader pattern of intimidation. Towards the end of his message, the former student leader openly warned that his life could be in danger, particularly due to the information he had made public. That message has now gained renewed attention following his death. Meanwhile, the tragic incident has drawn reactions from human rights organizations, traditional leaders, and youth groups, all of whom have appealed for calm while urging authorities to ensure a comprehensive investigation. One of such responses came from the Foundation for Environmental Rights Advocacy & Development (FENRAD). In a strongly worded statement issued on Sunday, the group’s Executive Director, Nelson Nnanna Nwafor, called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of everyone connected to the killing. According to him, there is a pressing need for a reassessment of how security agencies respond to reported threats and early warning signs. He emphasized that ignoring such alerts often results in avoidable tragedies. FENRAD also demanded accountability for any form of negligence or institutional failure that may have contributed to the inability of security agencies to protect the deceased, stressing that justice must be served to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

Kwankwaso Says He Will Only Defect If Offered Presidential or VP Ticket Ahead of 2027 Elections

Former Kano State Governor and national leader of the Kwankwasiyya political movement, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has declared that he will only consider leaving his current political platform if he is offered either the presidential or vice-presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections. Kwankwaso made this known on Saturday while speaking to loyal supporters of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) at his private residence in Kano State. According to him, any potential defection must align with his long-standing political relevance and the expectations of his widespread support base across Nigeria. The former governor emphasized that his political structure, which has been built and sustained for over four decades, would not support a move to another party unless it guarantees him one of the country’s two highest political offices in the next general election cycle. He explained that his followers nationwide believe strongly in his leadership and would reject any political arrangement that sidelines him from a presidential or vice-presidential position. Kwankwaso further disclosed that the All Progressives Congress (APC) had approached him with an invitation to join the ruling party. However, he stated that he turned down the offer because it lacked clarity and failed to present any meaningful political value. According to him, discussions with the APC did not produce convincing answers regarding what role he would play if he joined the party. He questioned whether the offer was limited to political appointments and asked how such positions would align with his political standing, as well as the principles of the NNPP leadership. He noted that no definite response was given to these questions, which ultimately led him to reject the proposal. Reaffirming his political direction, Kwankwaso stated that the NNPP remains fully committed to the Kwankwasiyya ideology, a movement centered on improving the welfare of ordinary citizens. He highlighted the party’s focus on poverty alleviation, youth empowerment through education and employment, economic growth, access to quality healthcare, and agricultural development. He stressed that the NNPP is preparing seriously for the 2027 general elections, describing the upcoming contest as a collective national effort that demands cooperation and unity, especially within Kano State. Kwankwaso emphasized that political unity in Kano is essential for electoral success, noting that internal division could weaken the party’s chances in the next election. He also reacted to reports suggesting a possible defection by Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, describing such a move as a betrayal of trust. Despite expressing disappointment, he urged his supporters to remain calm, focused, and prayerful as political events continue to unfold. Kwankwaso lamented that after the collective struggle to reclaim Kano State from the influence of former governor Abdullahi Ganduje and the APC, the alleged move could undo those efforts without resistance. PDP Crisis Deepens as Umar Sani Says Party Leaders Want Wike to Exit

Former Presidential Media Adviser, Umar Sani, has alleged that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is intentionally fueling instability within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). According to Sani, influential leaders within the opposition party no longer feel comfortable with Wike’s continued membership, insisting that his actions have become harmful to the party’s unity and future. Speaking during an interview on ARISE News on Saturday, Sani provided insight into the widening disagreement between Wike and several PDP governors, the internal leadership struggle, and the potential consequences for the party ahead of the 2027 general elections. Sani explained that the ongoing conflict inside the PDP is not rooted in personal hostility but rather in resistance to what party stakeholders perceive as Wike’s excessive influence and disruptive conduct. Directly addressing the former Rivers State governor, Sani stated that if Wike believes the PDP cannot function without him, then he should consider leaving the party altogether. “From our standpoint, we want him to go. Let him move to the APC and see how we manage. We cannot continue accommodating someone who is destructive,” Sani declared. Despite his strong position, Sani maintained that reconciliation is still possible if Wike admits wrongdoing and seeks forgiveness. “If he acknowledges his errors and returns saying, ‘Please accept me,’ we will. This is simply the story of the prodigal son,” he added. Sani further clarified that Wike’s confrontations with PDP governors are not personal feuds but symptoms of deeper structural issues within the party. He suggested that PDP leaders suspect the presence of an internal saboteur working to weaken the party from within. “You cannot constantly drag people into crisis. You are fighting this person today, another tomorrow,” he said. “All these developments are not because they hate him or he hates them. It is the PDP’s internal challenge.” According to Sani, tensions escalated significantly when it became clear that Wike would not have any representation in the party’s National Working Committee (NWC). He noted that this would be the first time the PDP would constitute an NWC without a single nominee linked to Wike. Sani explained that Wike believed he deserved representation, but party leaders disagreed. “They felt you cannot eat your cake and still keep it. You cannot actively work for the APC and still expect to impose candidates within the PDP,” he explained. On the legal actions initiated by Wike against the party’s internal processes, Sani dismissed the claims entirely, describing them as unfounded. “Everything he took to court is just a collection of falsehoods,” Sani stated. He emphasized that the PDP followed its constitutional guidelines during its convention, contrary to Wike’s allegations. “For a convention to hold, two-thirds of the states must be present, and that requirement was met. Claims that 16 states lacked congresses are simply untrue.” Reacting to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde’s assertion that Wike promised to weaken the PDP in favor of President Bola Tinubu ahead of 2027, Sani said he believed Makinde’s account. “Governor Makinde is not known for dishonesty. I do not think he would fabricate such a serious allegation. I am convinced Wike made that statement,” he said. Sani also addressed accusations made by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, who alleged that Wike orchestrated harassment against him through anti-corruption agencies. Sani pointed to Wike’s political weight in Abuja while criticizing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for what he described as selective enforcement. “The EFCC has become a textbook example of selective prosecution. How can Nigerians trust such an institution?” he questioned. Despite the internal turmoil, Sani expressed confidence that the PDP would ultimately resolve its challenges through the judicial system. He referenced past Supreme Court rulings which clearly state that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has no authority to interfere in the internal affairs of political parties. “We are waiting for the higher courts to reaffirm those judgments. Once that happens, the issue is settled,” he said. Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Sani dismissed claims that the PDP is politically finished. He insisted the party would regain strength once its legal matters are concluded. “Once the PDP overcomes this phase, the momentum will return. The political traffic will shift, and all roads will lead back to the PDP,” he said. On Peter Obi’s decision to move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Sani stated that the former Labour Party presidential candidate still has the option of returning to the PDP. “If he is denied a ticket elsewhere, the PDP remains his only viable alternative, and we are ready to offer him the platform,” he noted. Sani concluded by stressing that the PDP remains Nigeria’s most formidable political platform, citing its nationwide structure, extensive reach, and loyal support base as unmatched by any other opposition party. NDLEA Sensitises Abia Traders Against Drug Abuse and Trafficking

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Abia State Command, has intensified its campaign against drug abuse and illicit trafficking through a sensitisation programme conducted at the Ehere Electronic Market, located in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State. This awareness initiative forms part of the agency’s continuous efforts aimed at reducing the prevalence of drug abuse and preventing the circulation of illegal narcotics within communities across the state. The sensitisation exercise was spearheaded by Assistant Commander of Narcotics (ACN) Frank Nwaohamou, with the support of other NDLEA officers. The programme specifically targeted traders operating within the Ehere Electronic Market, recognising the importance of engaging business communities in the fight against drug-related activities. While addressing the traders, ACN Nwaohamou cautioned them on the serious dangers linked to drug abuse and the unlawful trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. He emphasised that involvement in such activities poses significant risks, not only to individuals but also to the stability and safety of the wider society. During the interactive session, NDLEA officers explained the social, health, and economic consequences associated with drug abuse. They noted that substance abuse can lead to severe health complications, disrupt family structures, reduce productivity, and contribute to rising crime levels within communities. According to the officers, these negative outcomes often affect not just users, but also innocent members of society. The traders were further educated on the legal consequences of engaging in drug-related offences, including arrest, prosecution, and imprisonment. NDLEA officials encouraged market participants to remain law-abiding and to actively support anti-drug efforts by sharing timely and credible information with relevant law enforcement agencies whenever suspicious activities are observed. In response, leaders and members of the Ehere Electronic Market expressed appreciation for the sensitisation programme. They collectively pledged their commitment to supporting NDLEA initiatives and promoting a drug-free environment within and around the market. Contact Information ? Gunmen Kill Seven in Renewed Assault on Plateau Community

Fresh violence has reportedly erupted in Plateau State as armed men launched a deadly attack on a rural settlement, leaving several residents dead and many others wounded. At least seven individuals were confirmed dead following the invasion of Bong village, located in Doemak District of Qua’an-Pan Local Government Area, Plateau State. The assailants are suspected to be Fulani bandits, according to local authorities. The Executive Chairman of Qua’an-Pan Local Government Area, Christopher Audu Manship, verified the incident through an official statement released on Sunday. The statement was issued on his behalf by the Director of Press and Publicity, Danaan Cletus Sylvanus. According to the council leadership, the attackers allegedly singled out Christian residents within the community during the assault. In addition to the confirmed fatalities, several other villagers sustained injuries of varying severity. The chairman further disclosed that the destruction caused by the attack was extensive, with residential buildings and valuable properties estimated to be worth billions of naira reduced to ruins. Reacting to the incident, Manship expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and condemned the violent act in strong terms. He assured residents that the local government was actively collaborating with relevant security agencies to ensure that those responsible for the killings are identified, apprehended, and prosecuted. “The chairman is profoundly disturbed by the killing of innocent citizens and has intensified cooperation with security operatives to guarantee that the offenders face justice,” the statement read. A resident of the affected village, Lawrence Dogari, also corroborated the attack. He disclosed that beyond the fatalities already recorded, numerous villagers suffered injuries, while the whereabouts of some community members remain unknown. “At this time, more than seven deaths have been confirmed. Many people were wounded, and a number of residents are still missing,” Dogari stated. The incident adds to the growing concerns over recurring insecurity in Plateau State, as rural communities continue to experience violent incursions despite ongoing security efforts. Rhapsody of Realities January 4th, 2026, UNDERSTANDING THE ANOINTING

Pastor Chris Oyakhilome DSc DSc DD But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him (1 John 2:27). Some Christians think of the anointing as something that comes and goes, but that’s not your reality as a new creation in Christ. The anointing of God abides in you permanently. It’s the presence and power of the Holy Spirit that equips you to function in the divine life. In the Old Testament, the kings and priests were anointed with oil as a symbol of consecration. But in the New Testament, it’s different. When you received the Holy Spirit, you received a person into your life. You received the fullness of the Spirit without measure, not in parts or degrees. You have the totality of God’s Spirit resident in you, with power. You don’t need to ask for more anointing or more power from God. What you need is a greater consciousness of the One who lives in you. The more you’re aware of His presence, the more His graces and power function through you. Stop “waiting” for the anointing to come; it’s already in you. That anointing teaches, guides, strengthens, and empowers you for success and impact, as read in our opening scripture. Walk in this consciousness every day. CONFESSIONI’m full of divine wisdom, strength and ability to accomplish every task. The power of God works mightily in me and through me, producing excellence in all I do, because the Holy Spirit lives in me. He guides me and teaches me all things; He empowers me for success and impact. Blessed be God! FURTHER STUDY:John 3:34:For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him. 2Corinthians1:21-22:Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God; 22 Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts. John 14:16-17:And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. In me abides all the grace, wisdom, prosperity, strength and courage I need to fulfil my glorious destiny in Christ! I have everything I require for life and godliness. I’m what God says I am, I have all He says I have, and I can do all things in His Name. All things are possible to me because I believe. I am rich in all things, having inherited all things, for I’m a joint-heir with Christ! I’m fruitful and productive. I am making progress in every area of my life. I’m complete in Christ and every facet of my life is perfected for excellence. The Spirit guides and inspires me to take actions that’ll guarantee evident and unstoppable progress, increase and blessings for me. I walk in the consciousness of God’s righteousness, I am securely established in Christ, and I live above the corrupting influences of this age. I live without worries, conflicts, and agitations. I can never be small because the anointing of God’s Spirit has set me apart for greatness, causing me to spread and make progress on every side. Jesus died and was resurrected so that I may enjoy the benefits of the new life in Christ. I walk daily in the consciousness of my divinity in Christ. I enjoy good health, peace, prosperity, and all-around success as I walk in the full blessings that Jesus Christ wrought for me, which I received when I obtained salvation. God’s Word is established in my life and it is evident for the world to see. I am seated with Christ in heavenly places, far above all principality and power, far above the devil and his minions, and far above sickness and disease in the mighty and matchless name of Jesus Christ. EPL Weekend Predictions: Alan Shearer Shares Insights on Man City, Chelsea, Man Utd, and Liverpool Fixtures

As the Premier League reaches another thrilling weekend, former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer has shared his predictions for Sunday’s high-profile matches. With the title race heating up, football fans are eagerly anticipating the outcomes that could reshape the league standings. Saturday’s fixtures set the tone for the weekend, with Arsenal narrowly defeating Bournemouth 3-2 in an intense encounter and Aston Villa overpowering Nottingham Forest 3-1, showcasing their attacking prowess. These results have further tightened the top-of-the-table battle, making Sunday’s games crucial for teams chasing silverware. Manchester City vs Chelsea: Etihad Showdown Manchester City currently trails Arsenal by seven points, but Pep Guardiola’s men have the opportunity to close the gap as they host Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium. Shearer believes City will capitalize on home advantage, stating his prediction confidently. “Man City vs Chelsea – Prediction: Man City win,” Shearer told BetFair. Chelsea, managed by Mauricio Pochettino, have struggled to maintain consistent form in recent matches, and Shearer anticipates that they may drop points again against City’s formidable squad. This clash could prove pivotal for the title race as City look to regain momentum. Liverpool vs Fulham: A Draw in the Cards? Liverpool, led by Jürgen Klopp, will face a tough test on the road against in-form Fulham. Shearer suggests that this match could end in a stalemate, given Fulham’s impressive home performances and Liverpool’s recent inconsistencies. “Fulham vs Liverpool: Prediction: Draw.” A draw could leave Liverpool further behind in the title race, increasing the pressure on Klopp’s men in upcoming fixtures. This game also presents an opportunity for neutral fans to witness competitive football with goals on both ends of the pitch. Leeds United vs Manchester United: A Surprise Outcome? Manchester United will travel to Elland Road to face Leeds United. Despite United’s ambitions under Erik ten Hag, Shearer predicts a Leeds victory, pointing to the team’s resilience and tactical setup. “Leeds vs Man Utd – Prediction: Leeds win,” Shearer told BetFair. Leeds have shown strong performances at home this season, and United’s inconsistencies away from Old Trafford could work against them. This match might be a key moment for both sides in the mid-table standings. Analysis and Insights Shearer’s predictions underline the unpredictability of the Premier League, where even top teams can face unexpected challenges. Fans will be closely monitoring these games, as every point counts in the race for European spots and the title. Contact Information ?
