An activist, Faith Nwadishi, who serves as the Executive Director of the Centre for Transparency Advocacy (CTA), has called on the Nigerian Senate to uphold the ruling of the Federal High Court mandating the recall of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP-Kogi), who was earlier suspended. According to LMSINT MEDIA, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan had been placed on suspension by the upper legislative chamber on March 6, citing alleged breaches of the Senate Standing Orders 2023 (as amended). Nevertheless, the Abuja division of the Federal High Court, on Friday, issued a directive compelling the Senate to reinstate Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central Senatorial District, from her suspension. Delivering judgment on the matter, Justice Binta Nyako characterized the six-month suspension imposed on Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan by the Senate as “excessive.” Speaking in reaction to the court ruling, Faith Nwadishi remarked that since the pronouncement originated from a court of law, the Senate was obligated to comply with the decision, emphasizing that no one is above the law. Nwadishi stated, “The court essentially functions as an arbiter — that is, an intermediary institution — to resolve disputes. Therefore, I welcome the court’s decision instructing that she be recalled. In my view, this issue ought not to have dragged on for so long. I strongly urge the leadership of the Senate to immediately obey the court’s judgment.” Meanwhile, Justice Nyako, in the same judgment, also imposed a penalty of five million naira (N5,000,000) on Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. The judge explained that the fine stemmed from Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s “satirical apology” which she posted to her Facebook page on April 27, in contravention of an existing, valid court order. Justice Nyako further directed Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan to issue an unreserved apology in two national newspapers as well as on her Facebook page within seven days of the order, in order to purge herself of the contempt committed against the court.
The South-East region has renewed its call for a constitutional amendment that would institutionalize a rotational presidency system and grant full autonomy to local government administrations across Nigeria. This demand was voiced during the South-East Zonal Public Hearing on the Review of the 1999 Constitution, organized on Friday in Enugu by the Senate. During the event, the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, highlighted the critical importance of adopting rotational presidency principles for the South-East geopolitical zone. Governor Mbah, whose remarks were delivered by the Secretary to the Enugu State Government, Professor Chidiebere Onyia, explained that embracing rotational leadership among Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones would ensure each region — including the South-East — is fairly represented in the highest political office of the country. He noted that this approach would greatly strengthen national unity and foster a profound sense of belonging for all Nigerians. In the same vein, Mbah suggested that gubernatorial positions should rotate among senatorial zones within each state, while legislative seats should rotate among the constituencies. This, he argued, would improve inclusiveness and promote equitable participation across every level of the nation’s democratic framework. Furthermore, the governor advocated strongly for increased representation of women in government. He proposed the creation of one extra Senate seat for women per state and two additional seats in the House of Representatives specifically reserved for women. In addition, the Enugu State governor recommended that each state’s House of Assembly should have three extra seats allocated for women, to advance gender equality and guarantee women a more active role in governance and decision-making processes. Governor Mbah also called for the proper institutionalisation of local government councils as fully independent administrative units. He argued that the current system — in which state governors frequently appoint caretaker committees to administer local governments — limits local democracy and frustrates development at the grassroots level. Mbah emphasized that the constitutional review committee should amend the 1999 Constitution to enforce the democratic structure of local government councils, enabling them to gain direct access to their allocations from the National Consolidated Account. He further demanded legislative and fiscal reforms that would devolve greater power and resources to state governments. According to him, the excessive concentration of political and financial power at the federal level, which stems from Nigeria’s history of military rule, has restricted the growth and advancement of states. Mbah stressed that a functional federal structure must empower states as autonomous bodies with adequate authority and resources to positively affect their citizens’ welfare. Similarly, Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State presented complementary demands. Through a speech delivered by Moses Odunwa, the Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Nwifuru supported the need to reserve designated political seats for women. He also pressed for the creation of an additional state within the South-East geopolitical zone, explaining that it would bring the region into balance with other geopolitical regions across Nigeria in terms of state count and representation. According to Nwifuru’s representative, if certain seats were set aside exclusively for female candidates, every political party would be compelled to nominate women to contest and fill those seats, thereby expanding female participation in governance. The South-East Zonal Public Hearing on constitutional review brought together traditional rulers, representatives of non-governmental organizations, civil society groups, and other government stakeholders to deliberate on how best to restructure Nigeria’s constitutional framework to achieve fairness, inclusivity, and sustainable national development.

The Bible, in Daniel 4, tells of how Nebuchadnezzar had a dream that troubled him deeply. In this dream, he saw a magnificent tree that grew tall and strong, providing shelter and food for all living creatures. However, an angelic being ordered that the tree be cut down, leaving only a stump bound with iron and bronze. This dream perplexed the king, and he consulted Daniel, a prophet of God, to interpret it. Daniel revealed that the tree was the king himself, and he would be humbled for his pride until he acknowledged that “…the heavens do rule” (Daniel 4:26). A year later, being yet unrepentant, Nebuchadnezzar was struck with madness; for seven years, he lived like an animal, eating grass and roaming the fields. According to Daniel 4:17, this decree came from the “watchers”: “This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.” The “watchers” here refer to angelic beings assigned to oversee matters on earth with authority to enforce God’s will. Nebuchadnezzar thought he ruled the world until he was compelled to acknowledge the rulership of the heavens. It’s the same today. Those who falsely claim absolute authority over others, operating under the delusion that their influence gives them control over the nations, don’t realize that true authority lies with God and His heavenly Kingdom. All power belongs to the Lord, and He executes His judgements on earth through the Church: “And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth” (Matthew 28:18). We enforce God’s will in our world: “All this energy issues from Christ: God raised him from death and set him on a throne in deep heaven, in charge of running the universe, everything from galaxies to governments, no name and no power exempt from his rule. And not just for the time being, but forever. He is in charge of it all, has the final word on everything. At the center of all this, Christ rules the church. Plans for the funeral service of late Liverpool attacker Diogo Jota, along with his brother Andre Silva, have now been finalized. The funeral is scheduled to be held on Saturday at 10:00am in the Portuguese city of Gondomar. Initially, Father Jose Manuel Macedo, a local priest, had announced that the service would happen at 4:00pm on Friday. However, Father Macedo later changed this arrangement and confirmed the funeral would instead take place on Saturday morning. According to information published by the UK Mirror, the shift in timing arose from minor documentation challenges that must be properly handled before the family of the deceased can proceed with repatriating the remains. Prior to the funeral mass on Saturday morning, a wake will take place at the Sao Cosme Chapel. Following this vigil, the final funeral mass will occur at the Igreja Matriz de Gondomar, a Catholic parish church located adjacent to the chapel. Diogo Jota, aged 28, sadly passed away after being involved in a car crash during the early hours of Friday. At the time of the tragic accident, he was travelling in Spain together with his brother Andre Silva. Troops attached to Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) on Wednesday apprehended two individuals suspected of being armed, during a well-coordinated security patrol designed to counter rising criminal activities within Benue State. The arrest took place along major access corridors leading into Makurdi, the state capital, as part of ongoing security measures. The two suspects were later identified as Mr. Felix Agbako, aged 42, a farmer who hails from Abiam Village in Gwer East Local Government Area, and Mr. Tsekaa Kyaan, also aged 42, a driver residing in Tse-Adam Village within Makurdi Local Government Area. This coordinated patrol mission formed part of persistent efforts by security forces to dismantle unauthorized roadblocks and to disrupt the mobility of armed criminals operating within the troops’ designated Area of Responsibility (AOR). While conducting a thorough stop-and-search procedure, the security personnel discovered an AK-47 assault rifle accompanied by a magazine loaded with 7.62mm special ammunition. Both the firearm and ammunition were cleverly concealed within a blue Toyota Camry with registration number Lagos FST 733 GL. The mission was executed under the operational oversight of Captain Miri-Dashe from the 401 Special Forces Brigade, who received strategic support from Captain Iyamba during the operation. As Nigeria moves closer to the 2027 general elections, President Bola Tinubu is encountering rising opposition from factions within his own political circle. Notably, some of the strongest allies of former President Muhammadu Buhari, previously united under the All Progressives Congress (APC) umbrella, are now aligning themselves with opposition movements to scuttle Tinubu’s second-term ambition, according to observations by LMSINT MEDIA. What initially appeared to be hushed disagreements among the APC’s influential power brokers has now grown into open resistance, involving many of Buhari’s most trusted lieutenants. Among the prominent figures are ex-Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Secretary to the Government of the Federation Babachir Lawal, along with other key members of Buhari’s cabinet such as Rotimi Amaechi and Abubakar Malami. These individuals, once considered pillars of the APC, have begun to coalesce around a new opposition alliance, fueling fresh questions about the governing party’s internal cohesion. A former National Chairman of the APC, John Odigie-Oyegun, is also part of the emerging bloc. This new coalition recently adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as its political platform, with the controversial selection of ex-Senate President David Mark as interim national chairman and former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola as its secretary. Internal cracks within the APC are not exactly novel. Tinubu, who was instrumental in Buhari’s 2015 rise to the presidency, now appears increasingly alienated from the same network he once helped empower. The APC itself was created in 2013 as a merger of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Buhari’s Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), and the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP). Although the coalition was a strategic masterstroke, it was always delicate. Buhari’s 2015 presidential victory — his fourth attempt — largely rode on Tinubu’s political reach in the South-West, alongside powerful alliances with northern heavyweights like El-Rufai and Amaechi. By the 2023 election cycle, the political tide had shifted. Tinubu, describing his presidential aspiration as a “lifelong ambition,” secured the APC nomination despite fierce challenges from within the party ranks. His eventual win came in a general election riddled with controversy, including a chaotic currency redesign, the divisive Muslim-Muslim ticket, and serious concerns over his health and cognitive performance during the campaign. Remarkably, Tinubu lost in the so-called ‘K states’ — Kano, Kaduna, and Katsina — all seen as Buhari’s northern fortresses, yet still won the presidency. Tinubu’s connection with Nasir El-Rufai had always been transactional. After initially being considered for a cabinet appointment under Tinubu’s administration, El-Rufai was later removed based on a security report. Their falling out was rapid and bitter. “Forgive me for bringing this evil Tinubu to power in 2023. It won’t happen again in 2027. The guy is gone,” El-Rufai reportedly told a group of his supporters in May, a remark that went viral on social media and gave a boost to northern opposition elements. El-Rufai, who previously served as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has since decamped to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), where he is said to be coordinating a wider coalition involving elements of the ADC, PDP, SDP, and disenfranchised APC members. While the coalition appears powerful on paper, boasting veterans like Atiku Abubakar, Sule Lamido, David Mark, Aminu Tambuwal, Amaechi, and Babachir Lawal, questions still swirl around its ideological consistency and ability to stay united. Even Dumebi Kachikwu, the ADC’s 2023 presidential candidate, has described the coalition’s maneuver as illegitimate, arguing that they are working with expired party officials. “The coalition is dealing with people whose tenure expired in 2022. We are watching with amusement,” Kachikwu stated. In spite of these headwinds, Tinubu is not seen as a political rookie. Often called the “master strategist” for crafting the APC and capturing Lagos for the opposition in 1999, he has survived numerous political battles. A top Tinubu aide, speaking anonymously, said the president is “unshaken” by the new coalition, and is already working to rebuild alliances. “Remember 2023? They said he wouldn’t survive the Muslim-Muslim backlash. They said he wouldn’t get the APC ticket. He did both. Don’t count him out,” the aide insisted. Tinubu is also reported to be reaching out to traditional northern political power structures to rebuild confidence, especially in states he lost last time. There are even speculations that Tinubu could replace his vice president, Shettima, with Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano State to boost his 2027 chances. With the PDP still fragmented and the APC battling internal mutiny, the 2027 contest could dramatically redefine Nigeria’s political landscape once again. But, at least for now, both sides are adopting a wait-and-see strategy. Meanwhile, some of Buhari’s loyalists, operating under the banner of the Forum of the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) within the APC, recently reiterated their support for President Tinubu. During a gathering in Abuja on Thursday, this bloc included dignitaries such as the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Tajudeen Abbas (who was represented), Katsina State Governor Dr. Dikko Radda, Niger State Governor Umar Bago (also represented), Foreign Affairs Minister Maitama Tuggar, former Nasarawa State Governor Senator Tanko Al-Makura, former Katsina Governor and former House Speaker Aminu Bello Masari, and the Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), retired General Buba Marwa. They emphasized that, although individuals are free to pursue their ambitions, they should not do so under the pretext of being “defunct CPC members.” Addressing the question of whether their bloc would still stand behind Tinubu, Hon. Farouk Adamu expressed confidence that the president would continue as their candidate in 2027. “We are with Tinubu just as we stood with our leader (Buhari), and we strongly believe Tinubu will remain our candidate for 2027,” he declared. The anti-Tinubu coalition, meanwhile, hopes to replicate the 2015 strategy, when a patchwork of opposition parties overthrew an incumbent. But Tinubu, whose political style is famously unpredictable, may still have several tricks up his sleeve. And in Nigerian politics, underestimating a veteran strategist can come with a steep price. Nigeria’s football family was plunged into deep sorrow on Thursday after the passing of Peter Rufai, the legendary former Super Eagles goalkeeper affectionately called “Dodo Mayana.” At 61 years old, Rufai breathed his last in Lagos during the early hours of Thursday, after reportedly dealing with an undisclosed health issue for several weeks. Dr Mohammed Sanusi, General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), expressed profound disbelief at the tragic news. He said: “This is truly, deeply shocking. Peter Rufai has passed away? What exactly happened? I am left utterly perplexed. We had no idea that he was even unwell. We sincerely pray that Almighty God grants him eternal peace and provides comfort to his family, his loved ones, and indeed the entire Nigerian football community.” Similarly, Hon Sani Ahmed Toro, who formerly served as Secretary General of the Nigeria Football Association (NFA), lamented the huge loss to the country’s football scene. Abuja – The Nigerian Presidency, reacting to the takeover of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) by high-profile opposition actors, has ridiculed the new opposition coalition, dismissing it as a gathering of politically displaced figures lacking real substance. The All Progressives Congress (APC) also issued a similar stance, labeling the ADC’s realignment as an association of vengeful power-seekers, declaring it had no worries about their activities. Additionally, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Mr. Nyesom Wike condemned the anti-Tinubu movement, branding its leadership as a team of expired and failed politicians. This development unfolded as the Labour Party (LP) 2023 presidential flag-bearer, Mr. Peter Obi, pledged his backing for the coalition, which intends to unseat President Bola Tinubu’s administration in 2027.
