In preparation for the Easter celebration, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Edo State have jointly deployed a combined total of 2,300 personnel across various parts of the state to ensure the safety and security of residents and visitors during the festive period. According to reports from DAILY POST, the FRSC’s Edo State Sector Commander, along with the NSCDC Commandant for the state, Agun Gbenga, confirmed the deployment in separate statements issued to the press on Thursday in Benin City. The officers outlined the specific breakdown of personnel, with 950 FRSC officers and 1,350 NSCDC personnel assigned to various duties across the state. FRSC Deployment Details The FRSC’s deployment includes 513 regular marshals and 437 special marshals, all of whom will work around the clock to manage traffic and enforce road safety measures during the celebration. In addition to the personnel, the FRSC has also equipped itself with mobile courts located across the three senatorial districts of the state. These courts will handle traffic-related offenses swiftly to ensure a smooth flow of operations. The FRSC has also deployed a fleet of vehicles, including three patrol vans, 18 vehicles, two trucks, five ambulances, and two power bikes. These resources are strategically positioned to enhance mobility and provide quick assistance during emergencies. The FRSC is set to provide coverage for all parts of the state from April 18 to April 23, 2025, through its special patrol teams. The Sector Commander emphasized that the primary goal of this deployment is to reduce accidents and ensure the safety of travelers and road users. He urged the public to comply with road traffic regulations and avoid reckless driving. NSCDC Deployment Details The NSCDC, under the leadership of Commandant Gbenga Adun, has also rolled out 1,350 personnel across various parts of the state. The primary responsibility of the NSCDC personnel will be to provide security at public gatherings, including places of worship, monuments, and recreational centers. This deployment will guarantee that all major public spaces are well-protected throughout the Easter celebration. In addition to manpower, the NSCDC has strengthened its intelligence network to preempt any potential security threats. The Commandant reassured the public that the safety of lives and property remains the top priority of the NSCDC during this festive period. A serious accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway left 11 injured after a Mazda bus, Mack truck, and Toyota Hiace collided. Learn more about the incident. A serious road accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, specifically around the Interchange section, left 11 individuals injured on Saturday. The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) confirmed the incident, which occurred around 7:30 am. Babatunde Akinbiyi, the TRACE spokesperson, explained that the collision involved a Mazda bus and a Mack truck. The truck was attempting to enter a private company’s premises when the Mazda bus, moving at high speed, crashed into it. A Toyota Hiace bus following closely behind also collided with the vehicles due to sudden loss of control. Further details revealed that the accident took place near the Cway junction, a short distance past Heyden filling station. The Mack truck driver had been maneuvering into Cway Company when the excessive speed and impatience of the Mazda bus driver led to the crash. The Toyota Hiace driver, upon noticing the collision, failed to regain control, further compounding the accident. A total of 21 individuals were involved, consisting of 12 men and nine women. Among them, 11 sustained injuries—eight males and three females. Emergency responders from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) promptly transported the injured victims to Idera Hospital, Shagamu, for medical attention.
