Security operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, have arrested a couple allegedly linked to the burglary of the residence of former Ondo State House of Assembly Speaker, Jumoke Akindele, in Okitipupa Local Government Area of the state. The suspects, identified as 28-year-old Samson Osowe and his 22-year-old wife, Ayo Oguneso, were taken into custody after an intelligence-led investigation reportedly traced some of the stolen items to a planned movement route out of the town. According to the security agency, the operation led to the recovery of seven mobile phones and other valuables allegedly taken from the residence during the midnight break-in. According to him, the suspects would be handed over for prosecution, while efforts continue to establish the full network behind the operation. Former Speaker Praises Security Response Reacting to the development, Akindele confirmed that her residence was attacked during the night, adding that the burglars damaged some windows before gaining entry. She expressed appreciation for the quick response of the Amotekun Corps, describing their efforts in tackling insecurity across Ondo State as significant. The former Speaker also renewed calls for the creation of state police in Nigeria, arguing that the performance of local security structures such as Amotekun demonstrates the potential benefits of allowing states to have greater control over security operations.
