Seyi Tinubu Running For Lagos Governorship In 2027 Is Not A Crime

The Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders (CONYL), a prominent body representing youth groups across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, has declared that Seyi Tinubu’s potential bid for Lagos State Governorship in 2027 is legitimate and should not be viewed as controversial.

In a statement released on Sunday in Owerri, the President General of CONYL, Comrade Goodluck Ibem, emphasized that Seyi Tinubu, as a Nigerian citizen, possesses the constitutional right to both vote and be voted for in any political election.

Seyi Tinubu’s Democratic Rights

Comrade Ibem reiterated that Seyi Tinubu’s eligibility to contest elections cannot be dismissed simply because his father, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, previously governed Lagos State. He stressed that every Nigerian, regardless of family background, is entitled to lead a personal and political life in line with the nation’s constitution.

A Call to Leadership

CONYL highlighted that Nigerian youths are urging Seyi Tinubu to contest for Lagos governorship, describing this as a divine call and a responsibility he cannot ignore. The group labeled this as a “call to duty,” encouraging Seyi to step forward and fulfill the expectations of Lagosians.

A Case for Legacy and Leadership

Drawing a parallel, CONYL noted that many religious leaders and General Overseers often pass their ministries to their children upon retirement. They questioned why an intelligent, capable, and visionary leader like Seyi Tinubu should be denied the opportunity to govern Lagos when he has proven his competence to lead effectively.

Rallying Support for Seyi Tinubu

The youth group called on Nigerians and all supporters of democracy to unite behind Seyi Tinubu, asserting that he is fully prepared, equipped, and ready to elevate Lagos State to new heights if given the chance.

Appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu

CONYL also urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to endorse his son’s candidacy, emphasizing his commitment to democracy and the will of Nigerians. They expressed confidence that with the President’s blessings, Seyi Tinubu’s journey to Lagos State Governorship in 2027 would inspire and empower a new generation of leaders.
