Troops escorting the convoy of Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, successfully thwarted a Boko Haram ambush along the Buni Gari-Buni Yadi highway on Wednesday, March 12, 2025. The swift intervention by the security forces prevented a planned attack by insurgents and ensured the safe rescue of abducted travelers.
Troops Neutralize Terrorists, Rescue Seven Abductees
According to counter-insurgency platform Zagazola Makama, multiple terrorists were eliminated during the intense gunfight between security personnel and the assailants. The confrontation led to the successful rescue of seven kidnapped travelers who had been seized by the insurgents during the attack.
Security Forces Engage Terrorists in Fierce Gun Battle
Intelligence sources reported that the convoy consisted of military personnel from Operation Hadin Kai, a specialized Police Crack Team, and high-ranking government officials. The team was returning from Biu Local Government Area (LGA) in Borno State when the terrorists attempted to abduct passengers from a Volkswagen vehicle along the highway.
Upon detecting the presence of armed insurgents, the troops swiftly engaged them in a fierce exchange of gunfire. The overwhelming firepower forced the attackers to retreat, abandoning their captives in the process.
Governor Zulum Was Not Present During the Attack
Reports confirm that Governor Zulum was not in the convoy when the ambush occurred. According to sources, he had opted for air travel and had flown via helicopter earlier that day, avoiding the dangerous route where the attack transpired.
Military Recovers Weapons and Motorcycles After Attack
Following the successful operation, troops secured weapons and motorcycles left behind by the fleeing terrorists. Despite the confrontation, no casualties were recorded among the security personnel or government officials accompanying the convoy.
This latest victory highlights the ongoing efforts of the Nigerian military in combating insurgency in the northeastern region, ensuring the safety of citizens traveling through volatile areas.
