Real Madrid have postponed Barcelona’s LaLiga title celebrations for at least another week after securing a 2-1 comeback victory over Mallorca on Wednesday night.
The match marked Real Madrid’s first appearance since Carlo Ancelotti officially announced his departure to manage the Brazil national team.
Madrid entered the fixture knowing that a win was essential to avoid gifting Barcelona the championship without them even playing.
However, the visitors stunned the Bernabeu crowd early on when Martin Valjent scored a precise opener in the 11th minute, giving Mallorca a surprise lead.
Kylian Mbappe brought Real Madrid back into the contest with a magnificent solo goal in the 68th minute, maneuvering past two defenders and firing the ball into the bottom-left corner.
The dramatic encounter reached its climax during stoppage time when a defensive lapse by Mallorca allowed Jacobo Ramon to capitalize on Jesus Vallejo’s flick and smash home a late winner.
With the victory, Real Madrid reduced the gap to league leaders Barcelona to four points, while only six points remain in contention.
Hansi Flick’s Barcelona side now requires just one win from their remaining three matches to officially clinch the LaLiga crown.
Barcelona could potentially seal the title when they go head-to-head with Espanyol on Thursday.
