The Sultan made this announcement in a video statement released on Friday, confirming that the crescent moon was sighted on February 28, 2025, marking the end of Shaban.

According to the Sultan, multiple credible reports of the moon sighting were verified and approved by the council, confirming the official start of Ramadan. He encouraged all Muslims to dedicate this sacred month to spiritual growth, prayers, and seeking divine guidance for the nation and its leaders.

President Tinubu’s Ramadan Message: Call for Unity and Peace

In a special message to the Muslim community, President Bola Tinubu extended his heartfelt congratulations to all faithful observing the fast. He emphasized that Ramadan is a time for deep reflection, self-discipline, and acts of kindness.

His message read: “As we embark on this sacred journey of fasting and devotion, we give thanks to Almighty Allah for granting us the opportunity to witness another Ramadan. May this period be filled with divine blessings, spiritual fulfillment, and good health for all believers.”

President Tinubu also highlighted the significance of Ramadan in promoting unity and peace, urging Muslims to strengthen their bonds with one another and uphold values of compassion and humility.

Economic and Agricultural Development Amid Ramadan

Addressing the nation’s economic outlook, Tinubu stated that Nigeria’s economy is on a path of recovery, with the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) showing significant improvement in the last quarter of 2024. He reassured Nigerians that inflation on essential commodities is gradually easing, providing relief for those observing the fast.

Additionally, as the wet season approaches, Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to boosting agricultural productivity. He outlined key initiatives, including mechanization and targeted input support, to enhance food security and self-sufficiency.

A Call for National Prayers and Collective Efforts

The President urged all Nigerians, regardless of faith, to unite in prayer for the nation’s continued growth and stability. He emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and harmony while striving for national development.

“Let us use this Ramadan as a period of spiritual rejuvenation and commitment to our shared goals. May the blessings of this holy month bring peace, prosperity, and renewed strength to our beloved nation.”
