President Tinubu Declares Seven Days of National Mourning for Late Ex-President Muhammadu Buhari

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially declared a seven-day national mourning period in memory of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday.

Tinubu made this announcement through an official condolence statement issued on Sunday, expressing deep sorrow over the demise of the former leader.

As a solemn tribute, Tinubu has instructed that all national flags across Nigeria be flown at half-mast for seven consecutive days starting Sunday.

“I have ordered that all national flags across the country be flown at half-mast for seven days beginning today,” Tinubu emphasized in his statement.

In further honour of the deceased leader, Tinubu revealed that an emergency Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday. This special session is solely dedicated to commemorating and paying respects to the legacy of the late President Buhari.

The President also confirmed that the Federal Government will conduct a full state funeral to celebrate Buhari’s exceptional service and contributions to the nation.

“The federal government will provide full state honours to President Muhammadu Buhari, recognizing his towering contributions to Nigeria,” the statement further stated.

The burial of Muhammadu Buhari is planned for Monday in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, in line with Islamic traditions.

According to LMSINT MEDIA, the news of Buhari’s passing was confirmed by his former media aides, Garba Shehu and Bashir Ahmad, both of whom released separate official confirmations on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday.

In a swift response to the national loss, President Tinubu has directed the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, to travel immediately to London to coordinate the repatriation of Buhari’s remains back to Nigeria for his final rites.

This announcement has drawn wide reactions across the nation, with citizens reflecting on the late president’s legacy, while preparations intensify for the official state funeral and other memorial activities.
