The Katsina State Police Command successfully intercepted an attempted kidnapping, rescuing 14 individuals on Sunday evening in Dan’arau village along the Magama-Jibia Road in Jibia Local Government Area.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, armed bandits ambushed two commercial vehicles, opening fire in an attempt to abduct the passengers.
Upon receiving a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) for Jibia LGA led a swift response team to the scene. A gun battle ensued between the police and the assailants, ultimately thwarting the kidnapping attempt and securing the release of all 14 passengers.
Sadly, two victims sustained gunshot wounds during the attack and were rushed to a hospital for treatment. Despite medical efforts, one of them succumbed to their injuries.
The Police have launched a manhunt for the fleeing bandits, with investigations ongoing to gather more details about the incident.
State Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Abubakar, commended the officers involved for their bravery and professionalism. He urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to law enforcement promptly.
Reaffirming the command’s dedication to maintaining safety and security, the Commissioner emphasized the importance of sustained efforts to combat crime in Katsina State.
