Police Recover Ritual Items from Suspect in Kwara Student’s Murder Case

The father of slain Kwara student Yetunde Lawal, Alhaji Ibrahim Lawal, has disclosed that the police recovered ritual items, including a horn, black soap, and charms, from the suspect’s residence, reinforcing fears that his daughter was murdered for ritual purposes.

Speaking to journalists during a special prayer session held at Adefalu Compound, Ojuekun, Ilorin West, for the repose of his daughter’s soul, Alhaji Lawal emphasized the need for justice. The prayers were led by renowned Islamic cleric Imam Alabidun, who called for divine judgment on the perpetrator.

According to reports, Yetunde was last seen attending a naming ceremony before she received a call from a Facebook acquaintance, Abdulrahman Mohammed Bello, who allegedly lured her to his rented apartment in Olunlade, Ilorin South, where she was later found dead.

Her father recounted how Yetunde, a recent graduate with a National Certificate of Education (NCE) in Chemistry and Integrated Science, left home on Monday for the ceremony but failed to return. After 24 hours, the family reported her missing at the Oja-Oba Police Station. Investigations, including phone tracking, led to the suspect, who initially claimed she died of asthma before later confessing to murder.

Authorities have vowed to ensure justice. Alhaji Lawal has urged the Nigerian Police Force and the Emir of Ilorin to conduct a transparent investigation, ensuring that the suspect faces the full weight of the law.

The 29-year-old suspect, identified as an Islamic cleric, is currently in police custody, awaiting further legal action. Meanwhile, police commend intelligence efforts that led to his arrest, reinforcing their commitment to combating ritual-related crimes in Nigeria.
